Default 72 engine suffix question

I have a 72 engine with the CKZ suffix. Is this an LT1 engine or is it the one used in the ZR1? Does anyone know anything about these engine codes? If it is the special performance engine does it have any more value than a regular LT1 engine?
thanks
Tony

The CKZ is supposed to be a ZR1 motor. The ZR1 motor is no different than a standard LT1 motor. The value would be to the person or car that the CKZ motor goes into. Other than that it is a LT1 motor.

My old black book says...............

5th digit of VIN # is L for LT1 cars.

CKZ = HD 4-Spd/LT-1 (350)

Order # LT-1 = Optional 255 HP, 350CI Engone $294.00

LT1 cars with AC came with a 5600 rpm tach

LT1 cars without AC had a 6500 rpm tach

Yes.

Yes.

Now tell us the rest of the story. Where did you find this engine? Any chance the Corvette it came out of is still around?

According to the small block suffix codes, CKZ was used for the '72 LT1 and other Corvette non-LT1 engines (see listing below). I would suspect the casting date and front pad would help determine the actual usage .... if it is a "real" ZR1 (1 of 20) as determined by the casting date and a virgin factory pad, could be very valuable ...
Would help to know the complete stamping on the front pad, and the casting date (rear passenger side) ...

CKZ 1972 350 Corvette 255 ZR-1 4-spd 4-Brl Holley,
special version LT-1, Muncie M-22

CKZ 1973 350 Corvette 190 L-48 4-spd 4-Brl

CKZ 1974 350 Corvette 195 L-48 4-spd 4-Brl

CKZ 1977 350 Corvette 180 L-48 4-spd 4-Brl

The engine is in the 64 convertible that I bought. It's a 72 engine. I was just wondering if it had any value. Obviously, I would like to get an original type engine for the 64.

If it was made in '72, it's most probably for a '73 model year car. What's the rest of the info on the engine pad?

here are the numbers:
VO822 CKZ is on the front pad
H162 is on the block

Does this shed any light on this engine?

H162 = August 16, 1972 That's the casting date of the block

V0822 = Flint August 22. That's the assembly date.

SO.....cast and assembled in late August of 72. They started building 73's in August 72. Chuck

As a further check, you should have also a VIN derivative on the pad containing a part of the car serial number. The last '73 built in Aug '72 was 401138. The last '72 built was 527004

Does this engine have a cast iron intake and a Qjet or an aluminum intake with a Holley?
