Since the motorcycle is out of the picture and my vette is going to pretty much be for pleasure and racing purposes I need to get a real daily driver.
It has to be a 1975 or older vehicle that's generally really reliable. (no smog on cars that age ) No trucks or bugs please. I've no need for a truck and bug is too tiny. I'm thinking along the lines of maybe an early 70's Buick or something. I'd prefer it to be like a tank and I really don't care about gas mileage much because I live 2 miles from work. I just want comfort, classiness, and inexpensive.
To find a good, reliable car of that age, it isn't going to be inexpensive. I think you're better off looking for something in the late 80s - mid 90s that is distinctive. In the GM stable:
Not sure on my price range yet. Might have to wait till I get a settlement before I set any amounts.
Few cars I was checking out were early 70's Buicks. If you can find em, they're usually kinda cheap. ('71 Skylark for $4000 with low mileage and decent condition)
C3 RV actually brings up a good set of cars that I considered getting at one point. Those are all rather reliable and standard looking cars, and I considered those very cars at one time before I got the bike. I'm very much considering a 2000 or 2001 Deville DTS now.
Cars that I won't get are anything foreign or relatively rare (Unless it's a sweet Triumph GT6 Mk1 in which case I'll hump it before buying it). So BMWs, Hondas, Toyotas, etc. are out of the question.

i was just going to suggest a 72 skylark. had 2 of 'em. (one convertible) and loved 'em both.
once you get into 70', they start getting pricey, especially stage 2's and gs's

Don't discount the BMW 2002. I had a few and they were quick, well-built, reliable, easy to work on and handled as if on rails. With the right set-up, they'll make your Vette look like a chump in Auto-X:
I refuse to own one, mainly because of the attitude I've found many of the drivers around here have with them. Not something I want to be associated to. Most BMWs aren't fast and are expensive to insure and repair. Their resale value is low for a reason. Camaros have a higher resale value than BMWs.
I'm thinking a Buick Riviera is a possibility, though. Supercharged 3.8L and all of the reviews I've read on it are positive. I personally like the reliability of Buicks, but they're usually super boring cars. The Riviera is rather interesting so it has grabbed my attention, for the time being.

I've found BMW parts to be less expensive than Corvette parts, and they hold their value pretty well. Definitely better than a Camaro.
How about a Plymouth Duster with a slant 6? Those engines run forever and you can get one in good shape for pretty cheap. Plus when you are done with it, it would be a good basis for a fun Hemi project.

You're right...you'll be much happier in a Caddy or Buick Riviera...
