Has anyone ever toyed with remote locking on their C3? I have an 82 CE that has electric locks (via button on the inside of door) and I wondered if it was pretty simple to make it remote locking the same as modern cars today do . Are there any kits available to do this? What sort of cost are they ? Is it pretty simple? Etc.
The reason I ask is that the door lock on my drivers side has worked loose at some time in the past and has never been tightened (only had it about a month so not got inside to tighten it up yet) the result is that the lock moves slightly each time the door is unlocked and this has damaged the paint around the lock. If it can be rigged to remote lock then I need never use the key lock and so when I redo the paint the problem will not re-occur. Just a thought!!
He's got the solenoids in place and working.
Yes - remote is easy.
Just the same as installing aftermarket alarm system,
which most will support remote locks, too.
All you need to do is tap into the power lock wire with the
newly installed remote (or alarm) module.
Probably pick up a remote lock control for less than $50.
I installed electric locks and keyless in my manual locks '77 car. I mounted the actuators, customized the locking linkage, and added a keyless kit to it. Ebay. $50. I now have keyless electric locks on car that came with manuals. I liek it a lot, and recommend it to you.
This one is very close to what I installed. If you already have the actuators, and they are five wire, you can just add the remote system. If you have worn or different actuators, use the ones from this kit. http://cgi.ebay.com/2-DOOR-POWER-LOC...QQcmdZViewItem

Just did mine. As Durango boy said it is a 5 wire system. (Reverse ploarity) With most keyless entry or alarm systems they will work with single and two wire systems + or - . Useually you need to buy and extra module that will allow for reverse polarity. You can also add two relays and wire it yourself. If you need, I can post a picture of the wiring diagram for reverse ploarity.
Thanks very much to all who took the time to post repies - much appreciated.
spedaleden - If you don't mind posting that diagram , I would be grateful - thanks
Here is the diagram for 5 wire if the keyless or alarm system has relays on board.
Corvette color codes Blue and Black. (back of power door lock switch) You can pick these wires up in the kick panel these are the slave wires. If you test these wire with a test light. One will power on lock and the other will power on unlock.
Here is the one on relays

Not got one yet - still looking at what is out there.
I had a thought though (wait for it , doesn't happen often ) Will the module run the battery flat over the winter when the car will not move for a while? Anyone had any problems with this?

If its keyless entry no problem. if it's an alarm system armed. most run 50 to 75 miliamps. The battery will last about 4 to 6 weeks on a full charged battery. When you install it check the the draw at the battery. You'll know!!!
My keyless doesn't have any active current unless the unit is remotely told to open or close the locks. The alarm has to moniter itself constantly, so yes, it will have a small draw. A good battery tendr will solve this.
