Speedo cable question
I have a '73 L82 with a manual transmission. There wasn't any drive gear or 90 degree head connecting to the transmission to fit the speedo cable onto when I got it, nor was there a speedo cable. So, I tracked down those pieces and on the transmission side of the 90 degree head the rod that comes out of the tranny that the 90 degree head goes over is circular with a "notch" sticking out, which matches the 90 degree head input that plugs into, a circular hole with a "notch" that makes it so the rod can fit inside and then turn the gear. Ok, so that all makes sense to me.
So, on the other side of the 90 degree head, the side the speedo cable plugs into, is the same circular hole with a "notch". The problem is the speedometer cable I got is just circular and doesn't have a matching notch, so when everything is plugged in, the transmission turns the gear, but that doesn't turn the speedo cable because there isn't a "notch" for the speedo cable to grab onto and turn it.
I guess what I am asking is, did I get the wrong speedo cable and I just need to get another one that has that "notch" on the end? Or am I missing something obvious? For what it's worth, the 90 degree head came out of a 74 'vette.
Thanks,
-Joe
