Default Seat Back Help

The button on the back of my drivers seat doesn't work. How can I get the seat back forward (to clean behind) and how does the system work?

Does the passanger side work? If so fold it forward and check out the locking system.

When you say "doesnt work" are you saying it depresses but nothing happens or is it not possible to push in?...very stiff

My pass side button was stuck and I was not able to push the button in.
I took off the chrome trim that surrounds the button, sprayed oil around the button and let it work it's way down and while rocking the seat back and forth it finally popped in.
It's been fine ever since
Make sure the shoulder belt retractor isnt holding the seat from moving forward as well

It doesn't move. I have now taken off the trim piece and tried to push the botton and now it broke off. The shaft is still attached to the seat back. I wedged a screwdriver in there and rocked it back and forth, but no movement. I guess i will try to figure it out form looking at the passenger side.

I just took a look at my AIM and if the '78 is similar to my '73 there should be 2 screws down low on the seat back cover and then you should be able to lift up on the seat back cover to remove it and it and then you should be able to see all the linkage
