Default 73 Vette-replacing the dashboard

I am a novice. Does anyone know how to replace a dashboard top piece on a 73 Vette. Do I have to get under the front dashboard to unfasten the rear of the top piece? Is there another solution to repairing cracked upper dashtops? Thanks, EDJPRO

I've heard some claim that you can do it by removing the seven screws (6 on the dash pads, one on the center console) and the A pillar pads; then pulling it up and back. The front edge of the top dash pad is simply clipped to the birdacage.

Here's the center bracket, and fill out your profile.

Ok, so you say I need to pull both the rh dash panel and the center panel(verticle trim) prior to removing the upper pad? I have heard that the rh panel is not a big deal but I thought the center panel was difficult???

I don't quite understand though what you are talking re the "windshield posts". I have not pulled the panel yet,so maybe it will be self explanatory once I do that. I am dumber than a post re most repairs for my car. Hopefully, I will learn.

I think my profile has been updated now. Could you verify that is what you requested? Also, I am trying to use my Vette's picture with my profile but not sure that I am doing it correctly. Also, I cannot determine how to get to these msgs from the main page. I am currently routing thru my email notice. Any input?
Thanks,

It is a pain to take the center panel out. I think all you will have to do is remove the wiper switch part to gain access to remove the defroster duct. The "windshield posts" are the plastic trim pieces on the inside of the pillar. You need to take them off too so the pad will raise up. Note that there are a couple clips on the front of the pad that clip into a flange on the firewall (View "A") in the picture below. Your profile came out fine. It's always nice to know who is on the other end of the keyboard. We are here to help.

Cool, thanks for the diagrams. I will get back to you and let you know how it goes. Do you have a recommendation for purchasing the dashboard? Eclklers has a 10% discount right now. Thanks again, edjpro

The Last Detail usually has a good price. Don't know how they compare to Ecklers

you have to pull the pillar post trim, this gives more clearence to remove,,you might find that you have to slightly boe to clear the birdcage(windshield frame),,this is usually when they crack, due to age and the suns u v rays drying them out for 30 + years,, i finally gave in and ordered one from al knoch and im glad i did, it was expensive but the difference is amazing. dry and brittle ,and the new one is soft and plyable installing
