Hi all, this is a great forum! I have learned so much from everyone. I have a '75 vert which I removed the original exhaust from and replaced it with 2 1/2" S.S. true dual. I actually bought an '80s style rear bummper and took it to a forum member who customized it so I can use early '70s exhaust tips. My question is which muffler would sound good but not too loud? I want to be able to carry on a conversation when driving with the top down and/or listen to my custom stereo without having to cranck it way up. Any recommendations?
Go to a car show and get some folks to fire up their cars and see what floats your boat. It is really difficult to talk mufflers sounds on a forum in my opinion. You will find lovers and haters of Flowmasters, Dynomax, insert your muffler name here, all on the same thread. Personal experience will be your best guide. If you use the search function of the forum, you will be bombarded with threads over mufflers and you will see what I mean about one man's perfect muffler is another man's worst nightmare in a muffler.

I went for a chambered system because I couldnt afford Hooker sidepipes and I heard one on a friends Vette. Heard the Ultraflows were good also. Sound is a matter of preference.
Any performance muffler will be somewhat loud since these cars aren't sound proofed like a modern day Caddy! I personally love the Magnaflow mufflers I have. Moderate sounding at cruising speeds, mean sounding when you get on it.
I went w/the Dynomax super turbo mufflers from mid-america fit perfect & sound great. If I were to buy again I would get the same muffler in polished S.S.
I like Magnaflow and the oval tip from Magnaflow. Both in 304 Stainless Steel. Sound is mellow enough to talk to your passenger while driving and loud at WOT. They will get a little louder after a few months
There are a lot of quality mufflers out, I owned an exhaust shop and never had any complaints with Magnaflows. It's what I'll be putting on my '82 after the "swap".
There are really only three designs,..straight-thru, chambered, and reverse flow. I'm of the opinion that this is the difference of sound muffler to muffler,..not the brand. I'm no muffler expert, but I can walk behind a car and tell which muffler type is underneath
I'm old school and like the muscle car rumble. Dynomax Super Turbos (reverse flow) work for me,..and I believe they sound even better as they get older. Good quality product,..flow great,..zero drone,..priced right.
