Default Wheel Question

I have a 78 PC with the original wheels on it and the red ring on them needs repainted. Getting them painted is no big deal but then what do I do? Should I get the wheels clear coated, leave them as is or something else?

Thanks In advance.

They were probably clear-coated OEM.

there is no doubt that they were clear coated from the factory. i have been trying to decide the same thing for a while now also. my feeling is that the replaced "pin stripping" on the wheels will eventually deteriorate as you find yourself in need of having to touch up the finish on the wheels with polish. that would make re-clearing them the best option as far as durablility i would think. my fear was that eventually the clear would yellow out a bit. several people a lot more knowledgable than i am have told me that wouldn't be the case and that the clear would hold up really well over time (particularly since the car is no longer subjected to daily driver like conditions). there still seems to be something about leaving them "clean", however. i guess if i decide not to coat them, it wouldn't be terrible to have to have someone re-stripe them again somewhere many years down the road, lol!
