Some time ago, I heard someone say you could call gm and get a "restoration pack" for your old car. Is this true? If so, what do you get? Thanks a lot.
From what I have been told GM will send basically an assembly blueprint with out all the required parts obviously with GM part numbers. All that is needed is the VIN. The phone number is as follows: 1-800-222-1020 Best part its free, so act fast because good things do not last forever.
You can get a "restoration package" at no cost from GM/Chevrolet. Sinply call the Chevy/Geo customer assistance hotline at (800) 222-1020 or 810-696-4800. Have your VIN handy, as they'll ask for it. The contents of this package varies by year. Call now before they start charging!
If your car was originally registered in Canada. you will have to call GM of Canada at (800) 263-3777. GM Canda wants $40.00 plus tax for the restoration package, so try the US number first!
I ordered mine(It's FREE!), will take 2-6 weeks to arrive. I asked about what was in it, and to be honest, it has lots of information that is most likely out there. Stuff like torque settings, fluid requirements, maintenance issues, etc. When I get it, I'll post what all is included for my model('73 t-top).
I got the package for my 68.
Includes GM Restoration Parts Catalog (266pgs),
a 11 page 'handout' entitled "Past Model Information", which includes production numbers by year and also a National Council of Corvette Clubs Directory,
a 21 page 'handout' which has sections for serial number identification, interior and exterior equipment,Dimensions & Weights, Chassis info, and is loaded with technical information about your model year, and
69 page Past Model Information book that lists who makes what repro parts by specialty and by state located in and also includes a section on how to store your Corvette and reactivate it after storage
I like the section about GM licensees because it tells me who has what and is licensed to reproduce it by GM which is a little better than some guy from Taiwan making parts in his basement.
Overall, the package was definitely worth the phone call as the info is all in one place rather than having to accumulate various sources to get some of the same info.

I ordered the resto package on Monday and Chevy called me back today to confirm that it was still available and will be shipped. Promised I should have it in about 3 weeks. Expect to spend about 15 minutes on the phone to order it. I used the 800-222-1020 number but you'll need to explain what you need and they will transfer you to the correct person. It's still free and they initially told me that they were out of them for 1975, thus the reason they had to follow up with me after 2 days. Thanks for the info guys!

I have a '68 and was told that I needed to contact Toronto to get specific build information based on my serial number. Initially all was cool with them and they did ask for the $40 bucks but on a second call to them they told me that there are no records kept on my car specifically.
is this package just a general type thing and not specific information like color, parts, etc. specific to a serial number? I wonder??
Thanks for the heads up Can't believe it...it's on the way The assistant also gave me a number for info on build sheets...haven't called it yet...but, here is the number 905-440-7689 Muddy
