Good afternoon,
My wife's 69 convertible has heater problems. We would like to do several cruises in the next few weeks and the heater only blows a little warm air, mostly on the passenger side. I suspect that there is a problem with the vaccum portion of the heater. Is there some way to rig the heater so that it will blow full hot? I figure if it gets too hot she can open a window. We each have to take one of our 4 year old sons with us so we need heat.
Cheers,
Alex
Does the car have A/C? If not, I think all the heater controls are mechanical with cables. NOPE, I take that back. Just looked in the AIM for my 71' and they are vacuum, but they also show a "Temp Cable" attached to the left thumb wheel maybe it came off at the heater box end.
Sounds like the shut off valve is stuck partially closed and only allowing a slight amount of warm coolant through the heater core. Bypass the shut off value and you'll be warm all winter....You'll also be warm all next summer since warm coolant will continue to flow through the core.
Disconnect the core lines next spring, or replace the shut off valve, and you'll be comfortable in Corvette weather.
Less likely is the possibly there is some type of obstruction in the heater box or duct work.
