ok here's an easy one i hope. in my 71 there are two console side trim pieces that hide the radio wires etc. They are the small flaps right in front of the shifter console that are held in by a one screw on each side.
Anyway, my problem is that one of them is constantly falling off. The screw does not tighten.....it looks like over the years the hole has gotten too big in the metal piece you screw into. I thought about getting a bigger screw but i don't want to widen the hole on the trim piece. Thinking there must be another easy solution that i'm just not thinking of.
Hope i described this ok.
You described it to a 'T'. I'll look at my 71' in the morning, can't remember if the screw goes into a sheet metal bracket or just into the plastic e-brake console. If it goes into a bracket, you can use one of those u shaped speed nuts to make new threads. It's not real clear in the AIM.
There should be some sheet metal clips on the support bracket that the screws go into. One could have broken, shifted out of the way or just worn out. Replace it.
