Not to be a smarta@# but just take the little nuts off the back. Each letter has 2 nuts that hold them on. I think it's a 3/8 and you can almost do it by hand with a socket.

The letters have the nuts on back IF they have been replaced with aftermarket letters previously. The original letters came just pressed into the holes which had some little sleeves placed in them. To get the original letters out, you have to very carefully wiggle/pry them out of the sleeves without doing any damage to the paint. I put a little plastic strip down on the paint for prying leverage. They came out with some effort.

You sure about that? I have parted several 69-72 cars and they all had little nuts to remove. I also have a brand new GM NOS set and so do they.
