Default Why is this 73 so cheap??

Am I missing something here? This 1973 454, with matching numbers, has been on eBay all week, and is only gotten bid up to $5400.00. Plus, the Buy It Now price is only $17K. It looks nice in the pictures, and is described to be a rust free solid driving car. The engine matches the serial number as a matching number big block car. Why is it not doing any better than this?

I am thinking of bidding on it,...but I am concerned as to why it hasn't gotten much attention. Am I missing sometyhing here? Lat year for any chrome bumper, last year for big block.

I think I'm going to try and buy it,...I was just scared that I was missing something somewhere.

Call him on the phone and make an offer, you may get it for less than the 17K buy it now.

Looks real nice, only one more day to go and now its at 7K, I think it'd be worth the buy it now price if everything else that ya cant see checks good, even at 100,000 miles. Peace,,,Moosie

I wasn't planning on paying the Buy It Now price. I am hoping that his reserve will be lower than the Buy It Now price. I paln on bidding on it. Then, even if we don't meet his reserve, hopefully he will contact me and we can talk about the price,...showing that the fair market priced it at,...whatever. (Assuming that it doesn't go wild in the last hours and meet the Buy It Now price).

Usualy the reserve is just below the buy-it-now price. Also the serious bidders will come in at the last second with their bids. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Looks like he's got a bunch of beat up Corvettes, he knows how much they are worth and is trying to make a buck on them. If you can get that car for much, much less than the buy it now price, go for it, otherwise pass.

There is probably alot more work there than meets the eye in pictures. Remember these cars usually look great in pictures on ebay and turn out to be garbage cans. These car don't even look good in the pictures.

Being a PA car (I'm guessing), I don't think I'd buy her sight unseen for $17K. You might solicit a pair of eyes to take a look at her. But agree,..what we can see looks good, plus it's loaded,..A/C, pwr windows, tilt/tele, pwr brakes & steer, leather, etc. Sounds like the compressor is locked up (that's probably why the belt is off).

Heres my thoughts, it's auto, it's orange, it's got a very light undetailed very vague description, ( my post here has more detail ) i don't like the broach marks look on the pad, ( they go in all different directions ) not enough bottom photos, looks like more then normal surface rust to me, no mention of documentation, he's dealer , i prefer private sales, and the car looks like it's all there, but as mentioned a bit rough. Says: paint is "NICE" , that means it's a 10 footer, ( not recently done, not show quality, not maybe what you are looking for ) & might need paint, Paint alone will cost you $10K + & the inside looks like a daily driver & a bit ratty, he mentioned dash pad & door panel, i'm thinking rugs too at the minimum. Does everything work, headlamps / vacume, gauges etc........no mention ? can use some detialing or replacing. I'm sure his buy it now is what he wants for it or close & by the time you fix what he isnt telling is broke, repaint & clean up you will be into it for over $30,000
i wouldnt buy sight unseen on this one, go check it out or send a forum bother to help you........
PS if you could fix the a/c by just replacing the belt........why didnt he....??? assume the compresser is shot & who knows what else he's not disclosing. Anything i have ever sold on e-bay had a description as though i was going to be the buyer so there was full disclosure, and detail so the buyer wouldnt be dissapointed or have any problems after the sale.

A few quick thoughts,

The broach pad lloks good. It appears to have been cleaned off scraping frm side to side with some sandpaper, but the grain appears to be factory. The characters look right. And there was/is little need for a restamp here. It appears the car has not really been apart that much, though thats new paint on the engine and perhaps alternator is new as well. For a power brake air big block, the money seems right, but lets see what the last 40 minutes hold. I think worth $13,500.00.
