Another IRS and Underside Resto Complete with Pics
My 79 needed work on the IRS, so I decided to go all out. I had Van Steel rebuild my TA's with offset arms and powder coat most of my parts with chrome powder. I was very happy with the result, thanks Dan! VB&P set me up with a 360 pound composite spring and some fasteners I needed, thanks Gary and Frank! The underside was painted with PPG DP74 which is an epoxy primer. I have used this paint on a few projects and really like it. The frame was painted with POR-15 gloss black and was very happy with the result. The composite spring needed protection from the heat, so the nearby exhaust pipes were covered with heat wrap. I may be wrapping the entire exhaust to drop the interior temps. The struts were made from pieces using heim ends. Thanks to forum members who provided guidance on availability of parts. Also, thanks to gtr1999 for guidance on the diff drain plug I added. Below are the pics starting with a before shot. Notice the wheel wells were molded to make future cleaning easier. Also, Van Steel installed all Spicer u-joints and I used HD bearing caps from Drag Vette. My plan is to bracket race the car.

Yes, this was done with the body on and not a method for someone in a hurry. It took six months doing a little evey day.

If I'm not-mistaken, you bought this car in mid-Spring, with the intention of 'just doing a little bracket-racing', then realized the IRS needed-work, and have been at-it ever-since.....
