Wow! I had given up on this thread. Glad to see it's getting feedback.
I keep trying to figure out a way to shorten the front of my 81 and have it look clean. I thought of putting a fiberglass nose on and then cutting it about an inch in front of the seam all the way across and angled back a bit as it comes down the sides. Then put a 1" seam around the front and make a billet bar grill out of aluminum with the signal lights hidden behind.
I don't know if you can picture what I see, but it looks good in my head. I wish I had more artistic drawing abilities.
I see it in my head everyday, I'm glad i'm not crazy thinking this is a possible solution...I think that it wouldnt be that tough considering i'm going to mold everything smooth If my seams are a little off oh well.
in all honest as cool as that CE with the short rear looks, i'd shorten the front before i touched the back, and i havent really looked at the frame issues yet so i'll have to tackle that when this is more than just a concept in my head.

I really dont think the frame issues are a big deal. You just have to loose the 2 mph bumpers and fabricate some brackets to support the fiberglass on the front.
there's alot more involved with the front....i.e. grills/lights/air to radiator/etc
the rear would seem to be the easiest to tweek

Can't be much harder than creating a whole new dash. You don't seem like the type to shy away from a tough project to me onaquest.
I think I'm going to give it a try. For me, making the brakets and supports will be the easy part. It's all the glass work that has me a little nervous.
you ever consider painting the stinger a different color on the hood? metallic silver might look sweet with the wheels and pipes
It's hard to make out in pictures, but in the scoop and the spear coming down from the scoop have a slight shade difference. In fact the paint under the clear coat is marbleized and looks very cool...........

actually when i molded in my front, i was gonna remove the license plate and make a full grill...but at the time, i had really no clue on my vette... i did all the body work the first few months i had the car...... i would make the grill first then work your way around it that way..... just mock up a grill with steel or thin 1/2" ply strips.... this way you can get an idea for your form work before hand......... bty, i tend to do things backwards anyways....

I really cant tackle this until I start work this summer after graduation so i can afford a new bumper to cut up, I got a cash scholarship for finishing in 4 years that is gonna finance my fenderflares, So looks like the summer will hold a lot of fiberglass work for me.
I know that pertaining to this whole front bumper thing... i've been contemplating it a long time, search through my early posts and you'll find all sorts of crap lol, but its pretty sweet that i'm not the only one who thinks that the short front end would look cooler! If any of you do this ahead of me, please document your process, with cut lines measurements and pics etc. I'd love to have a reference when I start.
