Default Autocrossed today

Well it's the first autocross I've done since the accident and I didn't do too bad at all. I raced in SM2 outside of novice for the first time and had lotsa fun.

My best time was ~67 seconds, in a fun run, and my best "real" time was ~68 seconds and the best time of the day was like 50 seconds in an F125 (go-kart.) Best realistic car times were 56 seconds by a really good driver in a 1990 Vette, 53 or 54 seconds by a champion in a Porsche GT3 (Gary Thomason,) and a guy in a Ferrari 360 with ~53 seconds.

The only other guy racing in SM2 was in an MR2 and he did ~62 seconds and had 2 dnfs, so he was lucky he even got a time. I raced clean, as usual, but did I ever slip and slide a lot!

Alright so things I notice about the vette now! Plenty of power now thanks to the vortec heads, I can tear the tires loose easily. That's where the problem basically is, though. 255-60-15s SUCK for performance. They do nothing but slide slide slide. You could put the best driver in my car and I garauntee they wouldn't do much better than I did. We chalked the sidewalls to check for roll-over and the pressure was indeed perfect for the amount of roll-over I got. So obviously these poor tires just SUCK for autocross. (cooper cobra g/ts)

So hopefully early next season I'm going to purchase 17" rims and tires (255-50-17) and I think that'll help a TON. I got a quote from discount tire for the replica alloys that look exactly like TTIIs and Kumho Ecsta SPTs all mounted and balanced out the door for ~$1060. Z rated tires with lower profile sidewalls and better tread design. In a couple of years I'll probably go to R-compounds, but I'll wait till I get everything else sorted out before I attempt those.

Overall for the amount of experience I have and the amount of events I missed because of the accident, I think I did pretty well for a 25 year old beast.

Nope, nor do they care nor will it matter. The *** that hit me doesn't have any lawyers, nor does his alleged company, and he only had minimum coverage liability. We can't even get ahold of him, state farm has been trying to get ahold of him, we've had to pull DMV records because the information he provided is useless. The number he gave to the police appears to be false, his address comes up with a number for someone that isn't him. Basically he's a fraud.

Now if you're not going to bring any input ON TOPIC stfu.

Fraud? Then what's it called when someone is in a serious accident, claiming permanent injury and then, less than three weeks later, is AUTOCROSSING?!?

Seriously, though...I was looking forward to your "winning" a large settlement. Couldn't wait to see what kind of stuff you would pizz it away on.

Hey Pal, you're the one that mentioned the accident and how you went auto xing not me, I simply asked a question. If the question bothered you, I am truly sorry, to tell me to shut the "f" up is really childish, grow up, learn to know when to keep quiet qnd when to speak up,,,dont be like the NYFD guy who was out on disability and won the annual race to the top of the Empire State Building,,,,,,,,them "Feckn" lawyers will get ya when you least expect em to,,,,,Peace,,,,,,Moosie
Oh, maybe you need some better suited tires.

Cooper Cobras are $60 street tires, have no grip, are hard as rock and designed to LOOK COOL. Same with BFG T/As, Goodyr GT II, all the same stuff. They're good all season tires that wear well. If you wanna cut time off a lap, dole out some hard-earned cash for Comp. rubber.

You're lucky to be alive- You're unlucky to have been hit by a loser-
Can you say "Manhunt"?

It may turn in to a manhunt which could possibly lead up to him living the rest of his life in prison. Still in the wait and see phase.

I'm also starting to think the springs are too stiff. I have a feeling I'm relying on the tires too much without the suspension absorbing any of the weight transfer. Almost like the shocks having too much rebound.

I know they say 75% driver, 20% tires, and 5% car but that 20% is REALLY killing me. I ain't going to r-comps for at least a year or two. Gotta get used to the feeling of real tires, first.

And moosie, I really don't like getting dragged off of a topic like this. I'd prefer to keep posts about autocross, not my near-death experience. If you're going to ask questions like that take it to PM or something like that.

I said before,if you shave those tires to 1/8" tread depth, your grip will improve, and your times will improve...also,you need more seat time...one season is not enough...
I suggest running more events, then make adjustments to vette when you know what is needed...cheaper that way...

Well the front tires are almost at 1/8" now.

I think these tires will pretty much die before they're able to get the tread that low, though.

You and it seems like 80% of the people that autocross here. I've never had any good luck with Goodyear, Bridgestones seem to grip like a bar of soap, and these Coopers have a tread design that mimicks those from the 60's.

Too bad there isn't a good Toyo tire in 255-50-17. I've had extremely good experience with Toyo.
