Ok, so here's the problem. I have a th-350, and I think my front seal is leaking. I've called a couple of transmission shops and have gotten quotes of ~$480. Does this sound about right?
If this is correct, this sounds pretty expensive. I was thinking that maybe I could do it myself; afterall, I did build my engine with the help of the forum! However, this may not be such a good idea because I don't have a lift to put my car in the air, I don't have a transmission jack, nor do I have any idea what I'm doing.
Thinking about it, that price doesn't sound all that bad. I would have them do all the external seals, filter and juice while its out. Got shift kit in it yet?
majic1984 - Don't know about replacing the front seal but I pulled the TH-350 from my 78 while on jack stands & used a floor jack. I have a 12 X 12 plywood adapter I made that fits over the round (SOME ARE SQUARE) mount. With the removable crossmember - it was a piece of cake.
Is the $480 including the removal & installation of the tranny? That could justify the $$$$.

Yes, this is the price quoted for all seals replaced including removal and installation of the tranny.

I've got no clue, is this something I should look at putting in? If so, which would you suggest?
Yea sure you coud do it, its a tranny not a thermonuclear reactor. Like vetteman says, jackstands and a floor jack and basic hand tools and your in business. Dedicate a weekend, 2 cases of beer and a box of bandaids. Send the wife shopping.
I am talking myself into rebuilding/hot rodding a 2004r for my restomod, will see what happens. The shift kit is a good thing, gives you cleaner, crisper shifts. There is also a reprogram kit out there for more $$, lets you hold any gear to any rpm, downshift to any gear, any rpm..
If your not a racing nut, the reguar shift kit like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/B-M-3...58695554QQrdZ1
will do what you want.

Thanks, I might just try this out if I can borrow my friend's tranny jack.
I tell ya what... if there were no corvetteforum, I'd be broke right now trying to pay everyone to finish my vette for me. This place is great!
