Default Escort 8500 Radar Installation

I just recently got my 78 vette, I know you guys like pictures so I will get them up once I find my camera. I have an Escort 8500 x50 and a hardwire kit for it. I'm just wondering where I can get the power from, all it says for power is 12v. Nothing is said about amperage, only thing I can get is the fuse on the cord is 2A. If someone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Go to your local auto supply store & buy a jumper fuse. This will enable you to pull out a fuse like the lighter and put the jumper in its place. You reuse the fuse you pulled out so now it looks like two fuses in the pannel. Off the jumper is a pig tail that you can attach your escort to use a 2A fuse off this for the device. That's it your done. Wire tie the wire up to the escort location to make it look nice & neat.

Alright thanks, so jacking the power from my lighter right at the fuse is sufficient voltage? If my lighter is taken away I don't really care since its most likely rusted in place =) And also, what is the label on the fuse for the lighter?

It easier to get power from the fuse block... You have an unused terminal with "IGN" printed next to it. A spade terminal will fit. The radar detector will come on whenever the ignition is on and go off when you shut the engine off. There's more than enough amperage on the "IGN" terminal for your detector.

All the power is equal to the pannel. Its the fuse that matters. I don't know which one is your lighter on the 78 but its a 10amp fuse. just pick one it doesn't matter because your piggy backing off the pannel you can pick any fuse w/the jumper.
