Question on changing Master cylinder?
My father was changing the master cylinder, when he removed it the rod from the booster fell out. Should that be able to slide out? He pushed it back in and installed the master cylinder and now when you push on the pedal it makes a click noise that it didn't previously. Any advise would be appreicated.

Chuck,
when you say the rod 'fell out' do you mean fell out of the booster?
No they should be attached to the booster.
I don't remember how they are attached, but that might be your click. I'd definitly verify it's solidly connected.

keith,
Yes, it fell out of the booster. I thought it was strange that it was not retained some how.
Thanks

On my 78' it wasn't attached and comes right out. just insert it back into the booster (the correct way) and you'll be good to go.

The rod in my old vacuum booster in my '77 slid right out too. It wasn't sheared or broken.

I'm curious to find out how many, if any, of the rods were not attached but simply held in place by the master being bolted to the booster.

That's how mine was when I replaced the MC on my 73 last weekend.

I guess some were fixed and others were loose. Go figure.
