Default Desktop Dyno

I wanted to get some feedback on Desktop Dyno before I purchased it. Does anyone use it and how accurate does it portray your engines? I also see there is Dynobasic, but there is another version for $30 extra. Is that worth it as well?

I know, I'm cheap, but no point in getting something that I won't use to its full ability. Like, "Real Time 'What-If?' Testing" ??? Let me know what you guys think.

I have used it, but feel "Engine Analyzer" to be more useful......it has alot of cylinder head flow plug-ins and gives you much more useful data.

Engine Analyzer is also alot more expensive. What other kinds of data does it give you that desktop dyno doesn't?

I don't have it here at the office, but I believe it charts v/e over rpm's, calculates DCR, calculates BSFC, etc.

I have Desktop Dyno and it is a fun to use toy. It will come in handy to see what a potential mod would do to a given combination model but the absolute HP/TQ numbers are not real world figures. For example you can compare what a cam swap will do for the HP/TQ curves and you can model other parameters but it is pretty limited when it comes to specific manifolds or heads without flow data to work with. Entertaining and somewhat useful.

Engine Analyser is a real tool to do simulations and get more accurate numbers. I have used the free demo version and was impressed but just havent gotten around to buying the full version yet. You can do a LOT more with it.

Actually, I've been impressed by DTD because I have Dynoed Engines and compared the results, but you need accurate flow figures for the port flow for it to reach the 4% accuracy I have seen.
Bottom line, it's a good tool to get you in the ball park and to try things before purchase.

Interesting.

Do you have a link to more info and how/where to purchase?

google my man.

http://www.proracingsim.com/desktopdyno.htm

I wouldn't expect to get 100% accurate results for a simulation I'm only paying 80 bucks for, but if its spitting out HP numbers say around 350, am I looking at a +/- 10, or more like +/- 20?

I'm really looking to get one of these as a learning tool to see really what would happen if I change certain characteristics, say LSA, or whatever. Will a cheaper tool like desktop dyno let me see the results from changing minor specs?
