A friend of mine just bought a 1970 Convertible, base motor and Auto--anyway--the trim tag says Donnybrooke Green--yes its green but nowhere near Donnybrooke. Question-- the deck lid has some pretty good scratches from a poorly installed and removed hardtop and he would like to repaint the lid--the local auto parts store that has paint scanned it and came up with a sample color--not good match--tried stock Donnybrooke--not good either--any latest technology that could get a pretty close match???? Tried the seller--it was repainted before he inherited it from his passed father
well i hate to say it but if you dont have a paint code i would go with a total paint job and in the end it will be worth it in my opinion. ohhhraaaaa!!!!!!!! 0351 2/7 1986 - 1990
Take the car, or a piece of it, to a real automotive paint store and have them color match it. There are a couple of web companies that will do it also. I sent a plastic dash part from my 88 PU to a place in CA (sorry, couldn't find the name) and they matched it dead on. Cost a little extra but it was correct.
Found it, send them a 2x2" piece and they will match it.
You won't be able to see the color but this is an original donnybrook green dupont sample. These were used on the assembly line to verify the color. I checked it against an original donnybrook green car and its dead on. I plan on having the paint supplier match it. If I can get a formula in todays paint system, I'll pass it along.
BTW your right about the ordered color. I ordered a spray can to check, before I invested in a couple of gallons. Waaaaay off.
