Default What should I do?

I have a 71, not the stock engine and converted 4 speed to th400 auto. I have the body off and I am thinking of converting it to a big block with a 4 or 5 speed. Is it worth doing or not. I can rebuild the 350 motor which came out of a 73 truck or buy a 350 crate. The big block, however, seems like a fun project. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. This is a great site.

Well I've always small blocks myself, but build what you like. You can always change latter. Just remember, if you go BB, you'll need to change your springs front & rear for the extra weight.

I was wondering what I would have to change to make it a BB.

There are lots of things that will have to change. The question I would ask is "Why do you want a big block?" It won't be an original engine, so the value won't be as much of an increase...it will drink a lot more fuel...it may raise your insurance rates (modified vs. stock engine). If you have a good reason for one, or you really, really want one bad-- DO IT. Otherwise, stay sane and enjoy what you have. (Your checkbook will thank you for it.)
