Default Found a block making a decision

I found a correct casting and dated block for my 71 but I dont know if it is really worth it to me. The guy is asking $1200 but it has been relieved .060 already. Just seems alittle stiff for a twice bored block. Opinions?

I would look for a better block

Not to hijack the thread but this has sparked my interest.......

What do you do when the original engine has been missing/ rebuilt / bored several times and the block can't be reused? I'm assuming either replace it with a different dated block or hunt for a numbers correct that can be used?


It seems that eventually all the dated blocks will be used up......what do you do then?

Is it legal / ethical to re-stamp the block to make it "numbers matching" One would think it's no different than taking a rusted birdcage / frame and replacing it with birdcage in better shape but use the VIN tage from the old one.

Just wondering .....

Hi

Sounds cheap to me.
The blcok I need for my early 68 ( 321 casting ) is always going for over 3 K.
Just had an offer for one , .060 over , bare block, 3300 USD.
I am a already willing to pay up to 2 K, but not this amount.

Hurry up, they will soon become more expensive, I guess.

I would assume they will be sleeved until we are all dead or they are all in museums. That is, they bore out a significant bit of the block and put in a piece of steel tubing the same OD as the new bore but the same ID as the old bore. I dont think I could put an imposter engine in there and not tell the buyer, I like to think I am a Christian and its what I would want to have done to me were the roles reversed. In case anyone is intrested it is on EBAY under EBAY autos parts search 3963512 the casting date is B-41 (Feb 4 71), My Vette is a G13 71 body code which is Feb 13 71. maybe next time.
