Default headers install advice

Hey Guys,I'm putting a set of headers on my 72. I can already tell they won't fall in on their own. Could someone let me know what all is the best way to go to make it easier, thxs Terry

You may have to jack up the car and put one side or the other up from the bottom,,,, not sure which side at this point.

Don't know about the 72 specifically, but on my 77 the key was to get the car up in the air as high as I could. Took my 3 ton jacks 18" plus three 2x8s on top. So about 22 1/2". Then bring them in from the bottom.

Had to remove the z-bar clutch linkage to get the drivers side in but if you don't have a stick I would imagine that this won't be a problem for you...

Good luck....

I just put them into my 82. Car was way up in the air first and both went in from the bottom. The drivers side went right in. The passenger side I had to remove the starter, a/c compressor, dipstick and re-route my plug wires, then then that one went right in.

whenever I do headers I put a stud in the first and last hole, that way I can slip the header on,put gasket on(first and last gasket flanges are slots)then put bolts in,drawin bolts, remove studsand put in bolts. Then tighten all

got rid of the tube with this, make sure to check the oil before your headers get hot though

On my 79 both go on from the bottom. On the drivers side, the clutch Z bar, dipstick and #5 spark plug had to come out. On the passenger side the starter had to come out and I believe the A/C compressor would have to be unbolted, but my A/C compressor was already unbolted so I'm not 100% sure.

On my '77 both sides can go in from the top, but the clutch bar has to be reomoved on the drivers side. The drivers side will also go in from the bottom, but the clutch bar still needs to be removed as well as the dipstick. On the passanger side, to come in from the bottom, I would have had to remove the starter.

you can always use the Bubba method. bang 'em in with a sledge hammer. then you can tell the guy you sell it to that the headers were "custom tuned".
