The best way that I have found is to use a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting. Start heating at the top edge of the window near the back until you can get a fingernail under the edge of the film and then just move the heat back and forth along the edge of the tint as you pull it off. Go slowly so you do not tear the film. I have removed a number of complete window films in one sheet. Never had to use a razor blade which is ideal since there always is a chance of scratching the glass.

Easy yea right .Take a razor blade and get underneath it pull it off and then clean the glue off the window with A razor blade and windex clean it like they did when they put it on.Keep the window wet and the razor at a good angle keep your hand holding the blade dry.

Remove the glass from the door and smash it in the driveway. Buy new glass and install.

Seriously, you are going to need some patience no matter how you remove it. I would remove the door panel before starting no matter which way you do it.

Skip the removal. Go see an eye doctor. Tell him you have very sensitive eyes, and ask that he gives you a permit allowing you to tint your windows so the bright sun light doesn't blind you on your way to work and back. Take that note to the local Hwy Patrol office and get the permit to keep tinted windows. That's much easier than removing the tint, and you still have tinted windows.

Default Just curious!

Question to those of you that badmouthed my heatgun method. Have any of you tried the heatgun method? That is all I have used for the last ten years and it works fine. I like it since I have had good luck with most of the glue coming off with the film. Maybe others have had problems with it. I am not knocking the razor blade method since it is the oldest method around but can scratch if you are not careful. To each his own, I will say no more. Just take your time and you should be okay!

I agree that the heat gun is by far the easiest way. I normally start at an upper corner. Once you lift a corner it will skin like a squirrel. Like 66 Blue Coupe says slow and easy does it working back and forth. Use rubbing alcohol to clean up any specks of glue that stayed with the glass.

Is there any way to remove the tint from the rear window if it has a rear defrost?

I don't think it's possible without damaging the wires on the window, but if anyone has done it before I'd like to know how.

I need to take the tint off of the rear window on my GTP and have the same concerns about the heating element getting damaged. Maybe it just easier to smash out the rear window and have the insurance company replace it.

Saw your post and thought I would help you out. Tint is hard to remove. DON"T use a razor or pull it off with a heat gun. Best way is to spray it will a strong cleaner like 409 or something with ammonia, then cover it with cellophane. The cellophane will prevent the cleaner from evaporating and will sink into the tint. Let it sit on there a long time. Sun light helps a lot. Peal the cellophane off and respray it. After a while, peal it off. The longer you let it sit, the easier it will come off. I believe ammonia works the best at loosening it. Terry

Thanks for the replies! Heat and ammonia seem to be the ticket - both of which I have, so I'll give it a shot.

Default Tint removal

Soak it with Simple Green. Then pull it off. Use a towel on the door panel to absorb any drips.

last time i was in advance auto i believe i saw a tint removal kit
that comes with a spray solution and i believe a scraper.
so it sounds like amonia and razor blade should do the trick.

I have removed the stuff a couple of times when the inspection station stopped me and it sucks no matter what you do. Why can't they just leave us alone

Ahhhh....Spraying ammonia inside the cockpit of a C3.....Sounds like a better rush than huffing gold paint and not nearly as messy.....Think I'll roll up the windows to reduce evaporation.....Can't wait to try it!

Remember to cover the glass with cellophane after you wet it down. It needs to soak into the tint. Take care, Terry
