Been watching since 7pm....some guys have LOST THEIR *** selling cars at that auction so far....I've seen many cars with way more in them than they've sold for. And then to have to take out 10% commission to BJ??? Yikes.....that's why I'd never consign a car with them...you just never know.
I think it gives you your best shot at getting value for your vehicle.....no strings attached.....but of course you need two other people that agree....BTW, it's 8% to BJ from the seller, 10% from the buyer.
Did anyone else catch it when they were rolling out the yellow Lincoln Contential (I think thats what it was) and an overhead poll dropped on the hood. They were real quick to turn to another camera.
If I were to ever sell a car there I would buy a bidders pass so that I could buy my car (that doesnt sound quite right) if I had to prevent taking a major hit. I would have to cough up an extra 16% as well (buyer and seller fee).
This is done a lot more than you think. You get a bidders pass as a seller. T
I just finished watching the entire episode. Another record, 5 million dollars sold...at 18% commissions, he has made damn near 1 million for 5 hours work!
Trust me when I tell you that there are considerably more than 5 hours of man-power in what you watched last night. I've been involved in staging some (very) minor events compared to B-J and I can tell you that you work your a$$ off pulling it off.
Given the enormity of the setup at B-J I wouldn't even guess at the number of hours of prep that went into the hours you watched last night...
Yes, these folks are promoters and yes, they run the price of cars up (sometimes), but that is exactly what they are paid to do. You can blame B-J for a lot of things, but you can't accuse them of not doing their jobs.
Is it lucrative? You bet your butt. But when you're the best (in the world) at what you do the reward should be equally high.

I caught that - the Speed guys said "Mr. so-and-so better get over there to check out the car he just bought", then the cameras went away and that was that. Looked like one of the poles that hold up the big black curtains at the exit.
Boy. wouldn't that suck - you just buy a car and before it get's out of the building it's involved in an accident
I cracked up when the Speed guy (MC) put his hand between the rear tire and fender well on the 68 vette to show gap (about four inches)...
..and lifted the trunk mat on a T-bird exposing rust spots...
I was also thinking how I wouldn't want to sell a car at an auction with no reserve. At least selling it yourself, you don't have to accept any deal you don't like. I guess the draw of a B-J type auction is that you have the best chance of reaching the right buyer for your car. 2 thumbs up to Speed though for showing the cars last night that the real world can afford. I love watching the multi million dollar cars go over the block, but also want to see the ones I could actually buy.
As a gear head, I am always looking in the local classified ads at the Corvette and the Antique/Classic sections. It's amazing that today, in the AZ Republic, over 1/3 of the classified ads for classic cars.
Where there is normally just 1 column or 1.5 columns, today there are over 14 columns of classic car ads. There are 11 C2 and C3 cars in the Corvette "only" section (usually only 1 or 2) as well as many more sprinkled into the Antique/classic heading.
I guess everyone is trying to cash in on all of that $$$ in Scottsdale this week
I saw that too. Somebody got one h#llofa deal. That plum color was gorgeous. After reading through Vette publications & ebay etc...40k sounds like a great price.
But...(check new thread) Beautiful 68 complete resto for 40k
Makes me wonder what my '68 Cordovan Maroon BB car, driver quality condition is worth. Probably less then I hope.

I think the best deal was probably that blue '71 Boss Mustang at 53K plus $5300 additional.
I havent seen tonights episode (it's being recorded now) but I would agree that the BOSS 351 was the deal of last night.
I LOVED that 61 Impala I know I'll get shot down for this one, but I'd sell my Vette in a heartbeat for that one. (Of course my Vette might be worth 1/4 what that car sold for). A 61 348 or 409 is one of those cars that I vow to own one day.
Well, I couldn't wait till the weekend, and my son, my wife and I just got back from the show. We spent 4+ hours touring the tents and the featured cars inside. The "pairs" of cars being offered are stunning, and who couldn't use a pair of superbirds or tanker vettes anyway
I'll post up a few pics below. I saw the '68 that sold for 40K last night. It really does sit way too high up - I took some pics. It was covered in dust, as were most of the cars under the outdoor awnings. The cars inside were all very nice offerings and grouped, vettes, goats, camaros, mustangs, etc...
