We drove over today...spent 6 hours looking at all the cars on display for the auction...then returned to San Diego by 10 PM PST.(792 miles round trip)..it was worth the trip..we learned a great deal seeing the cars first hand...we also got into the main auction tent where bidding took place (4 of us) without a bidders pass...it was easy...

Sounds like a good trip...especially getting into the bidder tent Nice pic's... I'll take the yellow one with the stripes on the hood! I can relate to the bidders tent... Do not buy 300$ ringside UFC tickets...buy 35$ tickets and move around
BTW: Were heading for 20th International Sportsmen's Expo (Sacramento) this weekend....sorry, can't find a link (Supplement to WON). Needless to say, rather go to BJ!!! Muddy

Hey Muddy, that yellow one with the stripes is the one in my
C-3 ** C O N T E S T **
GREAT PICS:
thanks for sharing with us guys far away that could'nt attend !!
Sorry I missed you Rich - BTW, you missed the rain - it's sprinkling today
Prices are $25 for wed and thur. By Saturday it's $55 to get in. I think Friday is $45. I never get a bidder pass, but always spend some time in the tent - it's fun in there!!!
Can I change my bid in the contest after seeing a better picture of the yellow vette in your contest.....
Just kidding, I bid way to low I think...
I just called Time warner and ordered the speed channel so I could watch the auction, I noticed there are some awesome programs on this channel! Good thing I have DVR to record all this great stuff....

After I took that picture, some azzhol walked up,and started leafing thru the book binder.....but he set it down right on the paint with the corner rubbing on the fender...as he turned pages..
A older couple, who had won bid on a 442 Olds, could not figure out how to open the hood...or start the car..
Another couple was getting in cars, taking pictures of each other when signs stated clearly everywhere,NOT TO TOUCH CARS>>>
And finally, the wind was blowing hard all day,and all cars in tents outside had layers of dust about 1/16" thick from the dry dead grass....
Yeah..the big tent...all you have to do is just walk in where the cars enter for bidding...lot's of confusion there...
Re "rubber" bumper vettes....they are slowly creeping in to BJ....two 78 SA vettes went for under $25 K...one for $17 K and one for $21 K....I seen the $21 K vette...nothing special...and paint/decals were not correct..to much silver mettalic in paint...red interior..L-82 automatic...
Think one 78 Pace Car went for $47 K and another for $27 K...
Lesson : BUYER BEWARE...seems some cars have questionable histories...and don't rely on Barrett for "authenticity"...

This is so true!! They may do a cursory overview, but I don't think they do any investigative work, they simply take the sellers word for everything the seller states. They are not corvette experts so would not catch some fairly obvious discrepancies in a particular car, for example an engine option that was only offered late in a model run on a car with a low vin.
It's like me paying up for that autographed football at the charity auction. I figure the autograph is worthless but I am getting an NFL football and then I win it for $250 and find it's a rubber ball..... and the autograph is a stencil!

I looked at several cars "sold" from Tuesday's/Wednsday auction...I was amazed what some went for...also,some sellers lost money as well....one car went thru in 2006 for $100 K...it was on the auction again this year..and went for $80 K.....
And the Corvettes are tough...you MUST know what you are looking at...I spoke with two Corvette owners...both had very high expectations....and this 69 below is hoping for $100,000 K....nice vette...but not worth $100 K....mainly due to the paint and detail on the vette..It goes thru today....
