Default Keyless entry

I'm thinking of getting it because I'm too darn lazy to put the key in the hole. Does anybody have recommendations? Is there any drilling involved?

I put electric locks and keyless entry in my '77. I mounted the control modules behind the passenger side knee pad, and the actuators in the doors as such. Both were cheapo Ebay kits many years ago, but they still work to this day and I have keyless.

The large washers that the linkage goes through is to shorten the travel of the actuator. The actuator travels a full inch, but the linkage only travels .5" from lock to unlock and vise versa.

I bought a cheap one from ebay too - took 4 months to arrive but its here now but I have not fitted it yet . Mine is a 82 CE that already has power locks on a switch on the inside of the door so actuators are already in place - makes life a little easier - I hope!!

Yes, all you need is to control them. If you're lucky, you just have to tap into a few wires and you're set. I would say where the lock switcher are for easy access.

Sorry couldn't resist it - It is a long story , I bought one on ebay back in october but by Xmas it still hadn't arrived so I figured I had been screwed and it wasn't going to show. Then we bought the truck for my wife with the remote start on it and thats what set me off on the whole remote start/keyless entry combined. I bid on one unit but got out bid then the keyless entry I ordered turned - up 80 days after I paid for it So then i went looking for the remote start only unit to go with my keyless entry and found and bought thet lot of six that I mentioned on the other thread.

So in answer to your original question ............ YES

Not exactly , depends on your idea of modification

I am fitting a keyless entry but still leaving all of the mechanical lock in place - reason is to stop wear on lock barrel that in the past has caused bodywork damage around the lock barrel cos the lock is quite stiff and must have worked loose. Keyless entry means I wont have to use the key in the lock.

The remote start is because these vettes have Xfire injection and you need to start and let them run for 5 mins or so before driving so that the engine gets up to temp and the ECM sorts the revs out. This meant leaving the vette in the garage running with keys in the ignition and the garage door open to let fumes out . Car theif heaven
Remote start means I can start the car and open the garage door but the vette will still be locked and secure.

Both units are essentially bolt on and can easily be removed if ever I sold her (which I have no intention of doing)

This is not my idea of modification - just good sense.
My definition of modification is to do all of the engine changes for performance , body work changes , interior changes etc that would take away from what it is. I have no intention of making any of those changes at all.

Its an interesting point though - what is the definition of modification?
