Wife just sent our registrations in and made our hotel reservation on Monday. Looking forward to this one because it really starts the year for us. She was talking today about how she needed some more chrome polish. Bug bit her big time a few years ago and we both enjoy going to shows and ing with people and making new friends.
Hey, i got another question. If im going to this show up in columbia, im gonna have to drive.......i have confidence in my vette that it would make it there and back but i just want to be sure it gets there and back without the help of a trailer. Any suggestions on how to make sure it wont break down on me on the way up? Its about a 3 hour drive up there from Springfield.

First of all how many miles do you have on the car? Is it the original motor and not rebuilt? If you're unsure of its road worthiness, take it to a local shop and have them check it over. Tell them of you trip and have them give it a check up. However, it is a C3 and they are picky so you can never be 100% sure something won't happen. As the show gets closer PM me and let me know you're coming and we can all hook up at the show. Good luck!

I know there are forum members along your whole trip route. Maybe some of them can chime in and you can get names and numbers in case anything happens on the trip up.
Here's a show in April in Columbia, MO You can come to this one and watch several nuts in action. I've been to the last three years shows and will probably be attending this one. Usually there are well over 100 Vettes there and getting bigger every year. I've never won an award there, but it is fun.
Car shows are like anything else, there are so many different rules, depending upon who is hosting them. There is a large car show up here Memorial weekend were judges select the top 50. The only issue with this one is that unless you have a Mustang, you don't have much a chance for an award. I've seen brand new Mustangs win over excellently detailed and correct 50's Corvette's. In fact a few years ago the individual parked next to me brought his excellent example of a 32 Ford and entered it, his wife for laughs entered her 2 week old new Mustang. Guess who went home with a trophy and who didn't. So, if you like to sit all day (we don't, we like to cruise), go and enjoy the friendship, and meeting others who have your same passion.
When I do go now, its to view all of the neat cars and chat with old friends, rarely, if ever, do I enter one, normally its just for the ride and to see old friends and have some fun.
The whole car show thing is hard to figure out. Spend all day out there letting other people look at my car and I have the honor of paying for it. A few years ago I went to a show and there was light rain for a while. Some careless person turned around and the umbrella under his arm scratched my hood. The worst part is the person didn't say anything and just took off. That makes for an expensive weekend. It doesn't help that the rules are different everywhere. One place club members of the sponsoring clud are allowed to enter their own cars. At another the guy who set up the car show won first place. At another all the participants got to pick their top 3 and all the guys from one club won because they had more participants than anyone else. Just go to have a good time. Hang out with friends and make new ones.
Cheers Alex
PS Do you have any info on the Branson show?
i saw it somewhere on this forum some guy had a sectioned mirror and slit it under the vette and it was REALLy cool being able to see under it, just a thought

That's why my wife and I usually travel together (in separate cars). If I break down (I usually have tools) she can run after parts. knock knock, haven't had to yet.
Keep an eye open on the forums, there will be a bunch coming from KC.
Vettes always stop for broke down vettes (at least I do) but I'm coming from a different direction this time. I even stop for broke down cars that are obviously going to a show to try to help. Usually its the T-Buckets that are broke. Last year it was mainly overheats and just cooling down.
Sweet, thanks! I have a friend that is gonna follow me now thanks to your advice. Here is the info on the branson shows and a show in Eureka Springs later this summer.
Glad to here you got someone following you! Again, since I live in Columbia, everyone let me know when you'll arrive and I'll arrange that we all park next to each other. We can represent Corvette Forum.
I have my vert C2 sitting there and the guy judging the trunks comes up to mine and says "if you want full points I need to see the trunk". I thought he was joking. So I say " I can raise the vert decklid and let you look back there."
When he replies " I really need you to pop the trunk so I can judge it"
I then realize he is serious and has no idea mine has no trunk.
I reply "Sir, this car does not have a trunk. A lot of corvettes do not.
He says "Oh, I don't know anything about cars anyway, they just needed a judge." :
I have a 69 Mustang convertible that I show. I took it to my first judged show and was really nervous. The head judge says "Wow, a 69 convertible. I have one of these. Mine's right over there in the parking lot." I look over and notice that his car has 1970 front fenders (the front running lights are in a different location on the 70's). I ask about it and he says "I do?" OooooK, and he's judging my car.
I've never entered my 69 Vette in a real show (a couple of show and shines only) but I understand from a buddy who belongs to a Corvette club that they get really ****. It just doesn't sound like fun.
I'm 19 and i just got my first vette in october. I've been working on her all winter trying to get it ready to cruise this summer. I agree with what everybody is saying - that you should enter car shows just for fun. I love my car and i'm fixing it up so i can drive it, not trailer it back and forth so i dont get any dirt on tires and not win a trophy. I think getting a thumbs up at a traffic light is much more rewarding than getting a trophy. Its nice to see there are some other young guys out there who hate "riced" cars and love some good ol' muscle.
Car shows should be an opportunity to share stories and enjoy the cars. All too often people get wrapped up in the trophy part and who is going to win. Bottom line is this; I spent over $30,000 restoring mine and if someone wants to recognize me with a $5.00 trophy, well than thanks! It's not about that. It is nice to be recognized by your peers for what you've done, but that's not what it’s all about. I get a ton of complements on my car and that means more than a trophy!

That's in a nutshell what it is all about. My first place trophy is when a person comes up and says, "That is beautiful." I just like hanging out with a bunch of guys and gals that speak my language. I don't care if they own a Mustang, a Thunderbird or a Lincoln Continental, we are all speaking the same language, cars. I'm there to have fun. Sure, I can wax my car at home and cruise to the gas station, but what fun is that. And, at the end of the show, I can cruise home in my Vette and she's all polished up and ready to go to work for the next week.
