i tried to start the car this morning to take it to take it to the shop this morning and it wouldnt start. I replaced the battery about two months ago and hadnt had a problem, but the battery was totally dead this morning and I hadnt left the lights on or a door cracked or anything. I then tried to jump the car and the battery gauge stated 13 volts but the car still wouldnt turn over. Any suggestions to at least get it to the shop?
My car wouldn't start up one morning and I realized that I was out of gas.
Poured some fuel in and still no start.
Mechanic came by and poured some fuel directly into the carb?.. started right up.
Other than that... replace starter?
Just reporting my personal experience... I know absolutely nothing about mechanics!
when you tried to turn it over did the needle on the gauge drop, like it was sending current to the starter ? if it did you may need to take a hammer and tap the starter. I've had mine "freeze up" like that before.
yeah the needle did drop as if it was sending current to the starter, my next question then is where is the starter? haha, my lack of knowledge is why it is going to the shop and i'm not working on it yet. and is there any particular way that it should be "tapped"?
Nothing should drain your Battery in two months or three months 3 things #1 bad ground Chassi OR starter #2 Bad battery could be A bad cell just cause its new does not make it good. #3 Bad battery ground clean the contacts off on the battery posts. It almost has to be one of the three . taping the Starter with a hammer normallly only works when its hot not cold if you tap the starter and it works its more than likley the wires going to the starter not the starter its self.
My starter on a '75 did drain the battery. After recharging the battery
I hammered (not taping) the heck out of the starter then it started.
Mechanic determined starter was defective. Special note - he got a
new starter that would not fit (quality problem again) - then a rebuilt
unit worked fine.
i got the car started this morning and off to the shop. what ended up working was wiggling/disconnecting and reconnecting the connector at the firewall. the tapping the starter trick may have worked, but in my limited knowledge i never found the starter. i have the 78 assembly manual so i had a diagram of where it should have been originally but it wasnt there. thanks for all your advice.

I love it when a plan goes through. Most of the Corvette Mail order places sell that short harness to the starter. Usually aroung $60+. Since you live in Navarre, which a foot from the water you will need to keep those connectors sprayed with silcone or something to protect them from salt air.
