What the heck does the switch at the gas pedal do? It trips at WOT. I checked the archives but read a few different answers only on earlier years. I presume its for the tranny kick down system but mine does seem to kick down?? Maybe its outta adj? I have books on order but can't wait another week.
I've read the switch is for:
Factory nos option..
hood intake flaps.. (not on mine at least)
traction control..
and some more but those were the funniest ones
I have a 76 w/ a L-82 and TH350, Thanks for any help
Air intake supposed to open when you open the four Barrell.
Thanks for the quick replys. I have losts of reading to do for sure, The Air intake sounds like the best yet. I noticed there is a linkage rod that opens the air flap to the secondaries- now I need to check if the controler was vaccum or electric. I will investigate more tonight (my wife knows that means I'll be in the garage ALL weekend ). Maybe thats why the secondaries aren't opening either.. Or maybe they are but starving for air. The car is all original with 44k miles. NEEDS TLC obviously. Bubba got his hands on it to to do the stereo for sure. Wonder what else he did I never noticed before the purchase...
Thanks again, Ill trace wires tonight and post my finds.
This switch may be used to send a signal to the tranny....but it still might not work. The THM400 had a 12v. solenoid switch located on the valve body pad which allowed the downshift to occur. The carb switch could be OK, but the solenoid switch had poor reliability.
as far as I know the secondary lockouts on the carb(non-electric Q-jets) are completely vacuum controlled. The TH400 definitely uses it for kickdown and it also controls the cowl door on years that had it. It should be self adjusting, pull the switch forward a few clicks then push the gas pedal to the floor and it should set itself. The nice thing on 73-74's is you can tell if the switch works because the cowl door will click open. You'd probably need to get in there with a voltmeter to troubleshoot yours

Hey Chris - please tell me more. : Will the cowl induction door operate with the engine not running but with the ignition on? Reason I ask is that my transmission isn't kicking down and I also haven't been able to determine if the door is opening or not while I have the car running. It does make a pretty loud moan though under full throttle so I believe that it is opening or is open all the time.

sure will, anytime the ignition is on the door will operate...assuming your door solonoid is good. If you don't hear the click it could be the door solonoid too, that you can check by unplugging the wires at the drivers side front of the hood and connecting it directly to a 12v source. You can actually see the door opening if you look under the cowl from the drivers seat too.

Well, I got alot completed this weekend and frooze my but off (-2) - thanks to a big semi-heated garage it was tolerable.
The carb secondaries are all vaccum so that ruled that out. Chris73 is right there. Gotta be for the tranny but mine definately is the original TH350 and its a 1976- you know the one with the purdy steerimg wheel . Once this darn white stuff disappears I will try some road trials and see what it really controls. If Im lucky my book will show up and I'll trace it on the schematics.. Thanks much for alls input.
