Building a 79 and had the transmission rebuilt once...my fault let a backyard mechanic do it. Leaks terribly from the drivers side. Believe it is the seal for the speedometer cable. Replaced it once and did not seem to remedy the bleeding. Anyone else have this problem? Further, will any chevy 350 tranny bolt on for a spare until the orginal is fixed correctly.
Which speedometer cable seal did you replace? There is an o-ring for the "bullet" housing and a kinda cup shaped seal inside the bullet that seals the cable itself. That's the one that leaked on one of mine. Just stopped at a local transmission place and they just GAVE me one .

I had an el Camino that had a transmission leak , although it was a 4speed you might want to check this out, the leak persisted after I replaced the two seals on the "bullet" . I looked further and found that the speedo gear (driven) had worn the bore that it rides in allowing transmission oil to leak past the other seal . The speedo worked perfectly, I guess that the seal just couldnt handle the movement of the gear and it leaked. Peace,,,Moosie
