I just installed them on my '72 small block. Used them based on a recommendation from a coworker. So far, so good. I loved the ribbed edging and the reinforcement at the screw holes.
Mine came with metal reinforcements to use over the valve cover that were longer than my stock pieces. I did not use a torque wrench, only snugged them down and will keep an eye on it.
I was some kind of unlucky with them. Couldn't get them to be leak tight.
The cork once seem to be more willing to adopt to slightly bent covers ( possibly from previous overtorquing ).
I am successfully using cork again on my BB.
