Default Engine Stamp Pad - help ID engine T0615XCH

C3 People,

I am looking for some help id'ing an engine.

It is a 454 and I believe it is between 1971 and 1974.

Only stamped number on the pad is TO615XCH, please note this is what I believe is the number, little faint. No VIN number stamped

Lastly, can someone send me a picture or clear description where to find the date code of the block and an example code how to determine the date.

I am getting ready to list this item for sale and I want to be as open as I can.

Thanks for all your help.

Scott

This will give you the location of the assembly date. This was produce in Towanda but I do not see a XCH suffix code. Take another look.

This site will supply you with the suffix codes

XCH is the suffix for the over the counter 454 LS7 crate engine.

Default block ID

THanks for the reply, this is what I thought the motor was.

Where did you find this information out since every where that I look I can not find the information.

Would anyone have interest in this motor? Lastly, what do you think I should ask for it? Running motor with all forged parts and large connecting rod bolts, forged pistons, 4 bolt main, low rise LS6 intake.

THanks

Source: 1986 Chevrolet Heavy Duty Parts Listing

p/n 3965774

454 CID, RPO LS7, 12.25:1 Compression,
4-bolt main iron block, 5140 forged steel crank
w/ cross-drilled mains 3963524, 4340 forged steel
connecting rods w/ 7/16-in. bolts for pressed pins
3963552, forged hi-dome pistons, racing mechanical
camshaft 3959180, open-chamber cast-iron cylinder
heads 6260482, balancer 3963530, standard flywheel
3993827, (does not include water pump or intake
manifold). (No partial engine available)
(ENGINE SUFFIX XCH)

That cam is the 2nd design L88 with .560 and .600 lifts. The part number of the heads is 6260482 but not sure what the casting number is, could be 3994026 but don't know.

I would think there would be an interest in it but not sure exactly what. Guess like any engine will depend on the current condition and overbore. Is it in running condition now?

Oh, and the date code will be on the back top of the block on the right side next to the distributor, will be a letter and 3 or 4 numbers. The block casting number is in the same location but opposite side.

Default LS7 Engine

Thanks alot for the information, this was exactly the info that I was looking for.

The engine is running - never been bored.

Cylinder walls look really good, still have the cross hatching. I am willing to bet that the motor has very little if any hours on it.

Thanks again

LS-7, 12.25 : 1, the rest is gobblygook to me!! Should be a pretty stout engine, no? Get a dyno run, that should generate some serious interest!

WFO76 - Does your information state the rated horsepower of the LS7 off the shelf motor that I have.

I did check the date code on the backof the motor, early June 1973

Thanks

I will probably clean it up and stick it on the infamous e-bay.

I would love to keep it but I really don't have a use for it

Don't think Chevy ever threw out a number for the crate LS7.

I'm thinking that since a stock L88 with open headers will make about 520-530 gross hp,
that the LS7 would be in the 550-560 hp range.

Good luck with the sale, I'll be watching it.

Scheduled but never installed as a ZR2 package of 460-465 HP for 1970. Now wouldn`t that be a bullet. Similar to the 67-69 L88`s. I know my LS7 runs 11.2-11.4 at 120+. Great engine.
