Hi folks, visiting from C5. I saw an add for a 1972 Coupe, so far photos only. Photo shows a SBC, painted orange tin valve covers, black dual snorkel air cleaner, air-conditioned, 4 speed. It has the "Big block" style hood.
How can I tell if it was an original LT1 Corvette? Do C3's have an RPO label/plate?
How can I tell if it still has it's original engine? Are block/head codes visable with engine installed? Thanks.

As Muddy said, the vin tag will tell you if it was originally built as an LT-1 optioned Corvette.
Yes, the front engine pad is visible with the engine in place. You would be looking to see the assembly date with an engine suffix code of either CKY or CKZ, as well as the partial vin derivative. As far as whether it's original to the car or not, is not an easy task, get a knowledgeable individual to assist you in deciphering all the engine components to determine whether they appear to be the pieces installed at the factory.
