I bought this set from Northern Tool a few years back and have had no problems at all. The jack is only rated at 3000# however, but the stands are billet aluminum and work extremely well, especially on a lift.
The price on this set goes up and down, but is now $149 (the jack alone is $169),... cheaper than what I paid when I bought it. It's extremely light and has dual pistons. I have two other floor jacks, one of which is also aluminum and this is the only one I use... http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...3355_200313355

Thanks for all of the input,Harbor freight just opened a store 6 miles from work went and looked at theirs and bought it saved enough to treat myself to new jack stands.
I have a Harbor Freight jack I'm not happy with.. As it gets close to maximun height it feels like I'm going to snap the handle off. I really have to 'lean into it'.

They sell an aluminum low profile race style jack at Harbor Freight. It's around $130 I think but it's one of their better ones. It's light, easy to use, has a good height, and low profile all in one...and since your Vette doesn't exceed 1.5 TONs I don't think you;d have problems using it on your Corvette.
Well, I'll bring this post back to life. To make a long story short, I purchased the 2 1/2 ton low profile jack from Sears & they are a P.O.S. I have allways been a sears guy regarding tools etc. The first one I had did not pump up right from the get go. Took it back and got another one (BIG mistake). I have had this one for +- 1 1/2 yrs without much use. Jacked up the Vette a few times to change the oil etc. & my # 1 ute used it and that was it. Doing a brake job on an SUV. while jacking it up the casing cracked by the base of the handle. Guess what, out of warranty!!!! Go figure. The original 1 1/2 ton jack that I have had for 30yrs plus is still working and I think I paid $40/$50 bucks (but again, that was 30 yrs ago). I will NEVER EVER NEVER buy another jack from Sears. With that being said, I will still buy their hand tools. I have never really had any problems with their tools.
At this point, not sure where to go. Looking for a low profile 2 to 2 1/2 ton jack. Have seen a few posts from a few regarding Sams. May look into it. After paying +- $160 for the Sears, any thing less will be a bargin. Now I know safety is allways an issue and possible more so for me because my son will be using it more than I will, but for me (us) we use the jack to get the vehicle off the ground, then the jack stands go under ( NO if ands or BUTS) as I have told my son. THANKS for any input guys.
Thank you, it took me minute or two to figure out where this post came from. This is my first trip to the C3 section. Hello everyone!!! I hope all is well.
I need a good low profile floorjack. Mine won't go under my side pipes if I need to lift it from the side. Any recommendations for that
I have a 2.5 craftsman and an aluminum jegs low profile speed jack. I like the jegs better, its light weight and fits under the lowest of cars and goes up in two pumps.
When I bought mine last year. I looked everywhere for a USA made. I don't think they exist anymore. Bought a two ton from Harbor Freight on sale for like $59.00. It's fine.
I believe the better otc line is USA made, but expensive.
I don't know man...I have a 2.5 TON orange jack from Harbor Freight for $35 and it's been hard as a rock for two years. No leaks...it'll hold up a car for months.
Me Too! Its slow, but works and doesn't leak. Sams also has the 6 Ton Chrome Goodyear Jack Stands that are sturdy!
Yep, I have those chrome stands too. Big and sturdy.
I have a 1939 fire truck sitting on those things right now, it's been on them for two years. Still haven't moved. Truck is so heavy that a 2.5 ton jack couldn't get one wheel off the ground.
