When I bought mine last year. I looked everywhere for a USA made. I don't think they exist anymore. Bought a two ton from Harbor Freight on sale for like $59.00. It's fine.
69'Silver, Sears has a nice lowboy floor jack for about $150.

A while back my neighbor donated an old used one (brand unknown) to me but I never really trusted it. Helped me get the job done though. Then as soon as Sears had a sale on a good one I went and got it.
Might as well shop around for a couple of jack stands too.

My buddy has a Craftsman jack from Sears. It was over $100. We jacked up a truck to change a tranny and it was only holding up the motor after the jack stands were under the truck.
It would let the motor fall up to an inch every fifteen minutes. He returned it for a jack from Harbor Freight.
I have an older 2-1/4 ton Sears jack which leaks, requiring constant attention. I tried to get a replacement hydraulic unit for it, but it is not available. I figured this was OK since the jack was 15 years old. I am irritated to have to take 70# of steel to the recycler because I cannot trust this thing any longer (and yes, I ALWAYS use proper jackstands).
I was given a new, lightweight aluminum 1.5 ton Craftsman jack over the holidays, but I returned it before taking it out of the box. I looked at some online reviews which didn't look good, and this was on Sears' own website. If I recall correctly the warranty covers one year for home use, 30 days for commercial use. I tried to think forward and checked to see if replacement parts were available should this jack leak after warranty. As I expected from Sears, the hydraulic unit was not actually available as a service part (when I looked in January). I cut my losses and returned it. I know it doesn't cost a ton and might last several years, but I don't care for the idea of a disposable jack.
I did some research on the web and am going to pull the trigger on an American made jack, for which service parts will be available. I plan on soon buying a Milwaukee Hydraulics Products - Model 20.
It is not cheap, but appears to be made a quality unit. I know the golden question will be "what does it cost?". The company sent me a price list, which I will have to dig out when I get home.
I have a Craftsman 3 1/2 ton and a newer 1 1/2 ton ( bought for vette)
They both have failed hydraulic units. Would not recommend Sears.
At the other end of the spectrum is Brunnhoelzl. They make the pro racing jacks. I'm in the market too.

I think that common sense would dictate here that, when it comes to jacks and safety stands, you should buy the best you can afford. Probably not a good place to bargain shop.
I don't know man...I have a 2.5 TON orange jack from Harbor Freight for $35 and it's been hard as a rock for two years. No leaks...it'll hold up a car for months.
The Milwaukee Hydraulics Model 20 (2 ton) jack I referenced above was quoted at $414 from the manufacturer. It is certainly not inexpensive, but it sounds like it will last a lifetime. The company has been around since 1946 and appears to offer repair parts.
I am not trying to sell this to anyone. It is just another option.
Wow, I've had a Craftsman low profile aluminum racing jack for about 5 years now and I've never had a problem with it. It doesn't lose altitude it doesn't leak. Guess I just got lucky.
Guess you could always buy one from Griot's Garage. They're only about $500. If price is supposed to be an indication of quality you can't get much better than that.
Seriously, if the Craftsman jacks are having so many problems, I don't know what I'll do when it's time to replace this one.
But it's been through an 04 Impala SS, an 02 Corvette convertible, a 00Corvette coupe and now the 72 coupe.

Jacks are for lifting. Stands are for holding. Jacks as stands = potential disaster. Jacks fail. Stands don't leak.

I agree, and I didn't say it was smart...it just ended up that way. My stands were not in the shop, and was not working under the truck while it was supported. I was waiting for Ebay parts.
