I have a set of #550 springs that I want to cut down. I don't have a pneumatic or motorized cutting tool at my disposal either. Unless there is something that I can fit to a drill, perhaps a cutting wheel of some sort. Is it possible to cut the springs with a hacksaw, or would that be a really difficult task?
Tip...
To lower the vette without changing the spring rate drastically, cut the coil from the tighter spaced end...REF: Vette Improvement Program by John Greenwood...
Cutting the "open" end will increase spring rate approx 20%...that's what I did on my 78 FE7 coils, and I cut 1/2 coil with a torch...dropped it 1"...
I have the #550 coils, VBP told me they would drop the car about 3/4" - 1" lower than stock. I was thinking I would like to get it about 2" lower than stock. I was planning on starting by taking 1/2 a coil off.
