Frame rust

Frame rust
Im working on my 71 frame and have found rust holes, Im in the process of cutting and patching them. I was wondering if there is someway to dip the frame to eliminate rust inside the frame and then coat the whole thing with rust inhibitor or electricly plate it {galvanize,zinc or some other coating}, to stop future rust and paint the outside to finish the job? And if so could you name a few, hopefully close to DES MOINES,IOWA Thanks

Anything is possible, but it is going to cost a lot. If you are not too
concerned about keeping the original frame, it would be cheaper
to find a cleaner frame. Unless of course you forget about the
"dipping" idea, and simply blast, repair, and repaint.

I'm guessing that you might have found a lot of heavy scale inside the frame as well as the holes. If that's the case the remaining metal is going to be a lot thinner than it was originally. Frames for chrome bumper cars are getting more expensive by the minute so if you can find one and not gag too much on the price my advice is to grab it.

Later year frames aren't as hard to find or as expensive. A lot of the soft-bumper frames go for $500 or so.

I'll be taking my frame to a place in Dallas that dips the frame in a vat of water based stripper, then in an electrolysis tank to kill the oxide.
After that the spray the inside with a 360 degree spray nozzle and then the outside. I won't know for sure about actual cost until I take my fram to them in a few months but they quoted an estimate of $600.00 including my sway bars, suspension parts etc...

It would cost you more to get your frame to Dallas then it would cost to have this place dip it etc... but they might know someone in your area that could do the same since they are in the business.
