Default Help, need an honest value

I am considering selling my 1968 Corvette and need an honest value to fund an early C1 project. The 68 was a frame off and I realize that you cannot count your time in a project like this so I am asking the board for help. This car sat in a shed for over twenty years. It is a 1968 Corvette Convertible with 73,000 original miles. Torch red, but original color was maroon. It has one of 300 removable hard top’s covered with black vinyl. This is a #’s matching car. Has the original 327 with the 350 horse optional engine. 4 spd. transmission. Power steering This car was never hit and retains all its original body panels. Frame was excellent with no rust issues before blasting and zinc rich epoxy primer with urethane enamel top coat baked in full size oven for six hours. Black interior is original and really nice. All moldings, bumpers, lights are show quality and look great. Everything works. Mechanically brand new with everything gone through. Runs and drives perfect!! The car has never seen rain or been washed since completion. I appreciate the help

Those vette mag prices are
I would think she would bring $25000
If it still has the hardtop a bit more
Correct color might push her a little closerto 27500+
That car is mines twin (once mines done lol ).

If you look around small block 68s are not bringing over 30 grand.
It will someday...folks may ask more but they are not selling.(except Proteam, who can seem to sell crap for a fortune)
Look at ebays completed listings. I have been watching 68s for the last 6 months on there (And elsewhere).
Folks would rather buy a ragged Big block car than a perfect SB.
Now when summer comes someone may pay you more....
But if they have $20-30 grand they have alot of very nice cars to pick from.

If you have the tank sticker or POP, I would think a fully restored 68 vert 327/350 would get pretty close to $30k. The numbers matching needs to be solidified with the documentation to get you there. The non original paint hurts a little, but I still think it could bring it(everybody loves red too!). If no docs., deduct $3-5k, puts you in the above ranges.
Great job!

I disagree. His car, aside from the color change is "show car ready" and not some cobbled together POS. I think a price up to the mid 40's is in line for a car like that. I'm biased though, I have a '68 BB car. If ProTeam had this car, I can assure you, they would be asking a price in the mid 50's to mid 60's, maybe more. And you know what? Someone who is looking for that very same car will pay ProTeams price. That is the reality of this car market. If nicely restored Camaro's and Chevelles are getting top dollar, then a nicely restored 68 - 72 C3 shouldn't be priced very far from those prices. Lots of those Camaros and Chevelles are getting 50K or more now. JMHO

i would certainly classify this finished product as something very close to show quality if not there. IMHO

Well the tank sticker as you can see made a very nice home for the mice. the paper was all chewed up. What is POP and what can I do to document this car? I also saved the original unit number on the pass side firewall.

Thanks for everyone's ongoing opinions.

Tom,

POP = Protecto-O-Plate. This was a credit card - like plate that was issued to the original owner/purchaser of the car. When you visited the dealership, you produced the card for warranty type work or repairs. They used an imprint machine (like the old credit card slider machines) to imprint your information on any service orders. Nice item to have as most were thrown out when they went out of warranty or were sold. Hope this helps.

Others with more knowledge can weigh in.

Super nice car! I would love to own it! That said, I would be suprised if you could get more than low to mid $30k's for it. The small block cars are not pulling down the same kind of money as the BB's, for sure. The color change ( very nice by the way ) hurts resale on an otherwise correct car. But Hey, you just might find a buyer looking for a red rag top C3 w/bumpers and get $40K. I hope you do.

Price it around $40K and deal down to what you are willing to accept.

Check this ProTeam price for a restored supposed pilot line car, 60K. Tom's car is definitely as nice as this one. Even with the color change, I would still say that Tom's car is worth something north of 40K.

http://proteamcorvette.com/cars/203X.htm

Edit: They have a special deal on this car for 39K. Must be as a result of taking a bath on the "Last Stingray" LOL!

Saying that chevelles and camaros bring that, does not mean jack.
They are the hottest selling cars around right now.
More folks want them because more folks had them.
C3s have gone way up in the last 5 years and have begin to stall price wise. High resto cost is slowing the hobby down.
The everyman image of common old chevys + cheaper parts prices are pushing the other cars.
Alot of the big money vettes are pre 68.
The 68 has a now undeserved bad rep. If you price it next to a 69 in the same shape it (the 68) will be cheaper.
In chrome bumper C3s SB 68s are the lease sought after.
No lt 1 etc.
BB cars are king...and are doing well.
POS cars are in the 10-15 for a SB
Decent cars are 15-20
Nice and very nice are 20-30
This car is very nice, but a few things are going to keep it from bringing top dollar.
Even Proteam can not sell a pilot line car for the kind of money most are talking about on this car....
I think wishful thinking is getting in folks heads.
Put it up for sale and prove me wrong
I have sold 4 69s a 70 and a 71 in the last 5 years so I do have an idea of what im talking about.

No way! 25K for your car is WAY low. I would think mid 30's was closer to it's real value, but you won't know until YOU put a price on it. Just remember, you can always come down, but you can never go up. List at near 40K and see what happens. Looks like a awfully nice car to part with.

if proteam can sell'em for 60K+, why not sell it to them for, say, 50K and let them make a small profit?

If you price at 50K, it better be something special....and then your potential buyers will be very few. If you want to go that high, why not take it to Barrett-Jackson and look for the big money. {I still think if you ask $40K, more people with take a look...and as nice as it is, you just may get in the mid to high 30s.}

If that car still looks like the day you finished it. I will give close to $30k for it right now. LITERALLY! The money is sitting in the bank.
