Trying to see if my birdcage is cool I've removed the dash and included some picts below. The reason that I am asking is because I'm not sure where the cage is and someone mentioned before that the messy work done by a previous owner could of been a result of birdcage rot. If anyone can let me know if this is the cage and all looks cool I would appreciate it. Also worth mentioning but may not be applicable I took the seats out this morning and the springs look brand new so I don't think that there has been any water in the bucket/floor
Thanks.
here is some bad bondo work securing the front qtr to the cage I think
Another shot of the floor or bucket it looks to be in excellent shape

No floor pan rot is a good sign but the area directly below the speaker looks kinda like the "iron moths" have been at it, I am almost positive that that area is better viewed from the other side (firewall) but then the nose would have to be removed , or at least the tips of the end of the fenders,,,,,someone ( many here ) have done birdcage repair so I figure they will chime in shortly,,, Good Luck,,,Peace,,,Moosie
OOOPPPS: didnt see where you have a '68, it'd be hard to have the floor pans rot ,, they are not metal.

was 68 the only year to have fiberglass floor pans? the brown crumbly stuff under the green metal is some kind of mat or fiber glued to the fiberglass fire wall I think and not rust maybe this was some sort of insulator for the wall or duct work anyhow the only rust is a little surface rust at the weld point.

Reason: additional note
Get a look behind the kick panels. The #2 body mount. Then remove the plate just before the rear tires.Look at the #3 body mount. This is part of the cage inspection. Then look at the last steel mount behind the rear wheel. They tend to rust out.
While you have the interior out, you should change out those antique [and probably poor condition] GM dash speakers. Find a good quality 2-way 4x6" speaker set that will fit in those Corvette speaker frames and that are rated at 8 ohms (each). [The original radio wants to match with 10 ohm speakers.] {I just remember re-doing the interior but not changing them out. What a mistake.}

yeah I have a great set of speakers in the attic and thought this morning that I would change them out I would also like to sink an amp somewhere in the dash if possible along with a sub or bazooka in the rear while I have here apart
Is your Delco AM/FM/Stereo? If so, you can just use the wiring going to the convector (finned aluminum w/transistors thing under the RH dash pad) to feed the amp. Then remove the convector and put the amp in its place. You'll need to find a way to get the heat out of there if you put in bass speakers...you'll really suck power and make a lot of heat. Since its a Corvette, and not really made for good sound, why not put some speakers in the kickpanels and dash....and leave it at that. Anyway, good luck on your project.
