Hello there, first post - first day on this forum. I found a '72 Big Block car and I am hoping to close a deal - either selling my F5 Roadster or doing a deal with the dealership.

I currently own a Factory Five Roadster which is just in the finishing stages - I have been driving it for two seasons now and once I hang a paint job on it it will be up for sale. I have pics of the car on the FFCobra site in the 17 inch wheels section if you're curious.

Can you help me identify this car as I know almost nothing about 'Vettes - but I know what I like.

It is advertised as '72, 454/390hp, auto, pretty full load - power - windows - brakes - steering - A/C.

Is this called an LS-5 ?

Do all '72's have a removable back window?

I'll be lurking and learning

Scott

I have looked into building a F5 roadster myself. I opted to keep the Vette. Someday I will build one just to do it.
Yes all coupes in 72 had removable rear windows and the big block is an LS5

As far as I know, they do. The Corvette Black Book says the '72 was the last year to feature the removable rear window available from '68 to '72. Welcome.

I am looking into buying a 72 454 also. They don't have 390 horse tho. They still drive spirited and tend to be better equipped. Not a bad car. You can always massage the internals of the motor in the future if you want to bump up the horsepower.

The rear window does come out, and there should be a shelf under the back area where you can store it.

Thanks for the info - wow - 270 hp according to the listing Duke added - guess I'll budget some alu. heads.

Really would like the removable back window - being a Roadster Guy it kind of follows.

I'll update my info as soon as I can figure it out.

Thanks again,

Scott

Remember...in 72 GM posted NET HP... Listing > the 270 HP rather than the 365 HP (?) listed for the base 454 in 71. Which means that the 72 is not as lame as one would think.

Enjoy your car....and we need PICS ! As long as you do the labor for any resto projects....you will never lose a dime with a C3.

Thanks Bravo - makes more sense.

I will be doing most or all of the work when I get it - built my Roadster myself so I imagine the 'Vette will be the same - my Drag Racing Buddies are all Chevy Guys and are always giving me a hard time about my Ford - can't wait to see their faces when I roll up in that BigBlock BadBoy!!

lol

Scott...you don't have to be a "Supporting Member" to post pictures. You will need to go to www.photobucket.com .... That will be your "window" to post your pics on the forum. Put your pics on the photobucket - then copy/paste onto your posts. I am not a supporting member, but I SHOULD BE .... as this website is certainly worth the 25 bucks or so per year. I suppose I will do the Supporting Member thing...for me it would be $ well spent.

Scott.....here is a pic of a Cobra that my buddy in Port St. Lucie, FL is building as we speak. I don't know jack about Ford stuff...but he claims 650 HP without the Nitrous...... ......he's dangerous.

See y'all later...I gotta go to work...someone's gotta pay for all this stuff.

If it's stock, it's an LS-5, but it's 270hp and not 390.

A copy of The Illustrated Corvette Buyer's Guide will provide great reading and give you plenty of background on C3s.

Yup - that's a Factory Five Roadster, 650 hp?? that is insane - I've got a mildly worked 302 running probably less than 300 hp and it is a handful.
Here's mine:

Still needs paint - doing that now - dark gray I think....

Thanks again for the kind words - just dying to get my hands on that '72 LS-5.
