I have a 1978 Trans Am and a bunch of parts from another 78 T/A that I parted out. I've seen cars posted in transamcountry using the shaker scoop and since then have been toying on the idea of fabricating it to fit the vette's carb so as not to loose the shaker effect. All I need now is a donor hood. Has anyone seen this setup? Anyone selling a stock 81 hood?
i would just like to say that i think it would be a cool look. some might think its redneckie, but what ever! ive often thought of this myself, on vettes and other cars. ive seen many cars of many makes that it looks great on.
They do look cool. I've seen camaros, grand ams, monte carlos, mustangs, and mopars that have integrated it onto their cars. Depending on the workmanship, some look like they were original equipment. I'm no too prolific with computers and don't have any idea how to copy from other sites and post them here.
I'm seriously considering giving it a shot since my motor setup is high to begin with and even with the dropbase air cleaner, I'm noticing spider cracks on the middle of the hood and an L88 replacement is out my reach as of the moment.

If you want something photochopped, post the links of the pics you're talking about and I'll see what I can do...
Not sure how to do it or rather what to post. pic of car and pic of the scoop? I have the scoop out but it shows the big lip wherein the hood sits. Is that good enough?
Hmm...I guess Ive never paid any attention. I havent been going there much lately(same username, btw), some of the guys are getting as bad as Mopar fans(or the NCRS guys) there with their "correct" this and "date coded" that crap. Personally I could'nt care less if I have the right windshield washer bottle for my year car. If you come across any forums like this for 'birds, please let me know.
"blkbird" I do notice you once in a while over there. I don't post a lot, but do a lot of reading. You're right, guys there are starting to do that kind of stuff. Not too long ago, they wetre talking about the build sheet. I laughed to myself since about 10 years ago, I did come across mine and threw it away...........LOL. I kept that to myself and didn't say a word to those guys. NOW, my secret is out in the open.......... . What year/model bird do you have?
Its a '71 Esprit with a 350 bbl for now. I'd have loved to find a T/A in my price range but that's just not possible unless its a total basket case. I do have a '73 Formula but its future is very uncertain, its one of those basket cases I was referring to. If I ever get the garage of my dreams complete with a rotissery I might take a stab at it. Plans for the '71 are to install the 400(out of the '73 after I rebuild it) and get a 200r4 for it. The final project will be somewhere between the old Trans Am series cars and Pro-touring, built so I can drive it anywhere. Ive had my fill of 4.10 gears and 3500 rpm stalls. Heres a pic of when I bought it.
The vynil top has been removed(death to vynil tops ) and Ive started some rust repair(mostly minor, its a CA car) and converted most of the interior over to black, just missing a couple of pieces. My wifes going to school and I just started a new job about 6 months ago so its going slow, but it is still going forward. Never fast enough for me
That's sweet!!!!! Here's what mine looks like now, still in the process....She has a stroked 400 to a 467, 3200 stall, Th400, blah, blah,blah.....LOL. I just want to see her run again. Had this black beauty for some 20 something years now.
dropping the motor
my son hard at work......lol (don't you just love them)
nice cars! man im 38 and could never afford a nice 70-74 firebird or t/a. i remember when i was around 19, 20 you could get these cars for pocket change. we used to cut them up for dirt cars! people would give them to us!
Yeah, they use to be cheap, thats why I got into them!
400 into a 467? What crank did you use? I had a post on TAC I was thinking about doing that 400 into a 455crank and piston swap but could'nt get much info on it. You're car's going to be a monster! Makes me think Im getting old. I just want a nice looking, respectable performance, cruiser of a car. 'Course the first time I get spanked by a car like yours I'll be kicking myself. My first T/A, the one that hooked me, was a '77. Ive always thought the '70-'73 and the '77-8 cars were the best looking ones.
