I decided to wake up my C3 yesterday. I put a freshly charged battery in her and tried to start her up. I used some starting fluid in the carb and went turn the key.....click.... again....click. Nothing. I went to the garage for the hammer when my neighbor came over to help. He gave it a whack and she tried to fire. The car sounded sick. It finally fired up and idled fine but then shut right down, as if there was a fuel delivery problem. Well..besides the fuel issue, smoke came from the RH (pass side) valve cover. I figured this was normal since the car was heating up. Then....I smelled that electrical burning smell. The starter was smoking. I didn't try turning the car over more than 10 times. I can't imagine the starter would fry so quick. Any suggestions?
I'm gonna start looking to get mine rebuilt or find a new one. What is the ususal culprit for a smoking starter?
