Care came without a jack. Been driving it for almost 3 years without one. I don't think I want to push my luck anymore. I need a replacment jack for a '68 convertible. Will jacks from any other years fit into the storage compartment? Are there any aftermarket jacks that will fit? Any advice would be appreciated.
If you don't mind NOT being 100% authentic, you could locate an alternate jack in the wheel well of your spare.
I have an aftermarket jack, wrapped in cloth too reduce noise, along with some basic tools and a proper X wheel brace located inside the void of the spare tyre, which is located under the fuel tank wheel cover. It's totally out of the way, and secure.
It also frees up storage space in cabin tidies behind the seats. I just keep a small pouch with a dual screwdriver and a pair of pliers in the cabin, along with a spanner to unscrew (lower) the spare from the rear.
Jacks are date code stamped, so for NCRS you might want to find a correct date code stamped jack, but they are all virtually interchangeable from 68 - 82. You can find them on ebay all of the time. I f you don't care about the date code, you can get them for about $80 or $90 plus shipping. Watch the shipping charges, some guys try to make their profit there.
