whats it worth?
its a 7028219 (68 327/350 4spd)
im afraid i dont have any better pictures of it right now, but it looks like your standard old carb in need of a good cleaning and rebuild.
before any one asks, its not for sale. id like to know what its worth so i can use it as a bargaining chip at a swap meet this year.
I saw the one on eBay, it was listed as a top flight quality rebuild, which it looked like it may have been.
The lister said it was very rare as it was off one of only 9,440 350hp 327's. He must have been targeting people who know nothing about Corvettes (which is hard to do if you're trying to sell a "rare" piece to them) because, if he'd posted the numbers correctly you'd see that this is the MOST common carb for the '68 327 as there were only 6,579 300 hp cars and of course a lot less of each of the big block options, so the 7028219 is the MOST COMMON CARB for all the '68's.
I guess he was trying to create a "Cabbage Patch Doll" frenzy where there really wasn't one.
I spend a lot of time buying and selling on FleaBay and after a while you get to recognize unusual bid patterns. The opening bid for this carb was $500. Then a hundred dollar jump to $600, then $650 and finally $660, with 3 bids by the same bidder. The carb did not sell.
My (unprovable) guess is that the seller controlled the 3 bids in order to get things going which simply didn't happen. Don't forget, the whole world is watching eBay and it will usually get you the real value of an item if it is listed with No Reserve. Nobody on the planet thought this relatively common carb was worth anywhere near what the seller wanted, even if they were doing a top flight numbers resto.
Your rebuildable core is probably worth $75 perhaps a little more to someone who "really" wants it, but certainly not worth more than $125.
Of course, this is just my opinion....I could be wrong
Good Luck with it.
