no, I did not mean the frame but at the birdcage under the instrument panel? (Sorry my english is not that good, hope you understand). I know a '69 convertible has the reinforcements, but my (early) '68 do not? I was wondering if it had been removed from mine or never was installed from factory
The underdash braces that you refer to were not used on early 68 convertibles. My November 1967 built convertible does not have these braces also. Further it does not have the plates under the cowl to bolt the struts to. I have been thinking about retrofitting my car for these braces but they are very difficult to find. Also they were intended to reduce "cowl shake" and I don't think they worked that well.
If you have an AIM, the braces are illustrated on page H48.
What is your build number? I just bought my '68 convertible and it is #164. I have not checked for the reinforcements but they probably not there based on the responses so far.

Not to hijack, i did a search on deciphering vin #'s but how do you guys know it was a April 20th car?
My 68 is # 2,683 off the line. How do i know what month / day it was born? i have no tank sticker or any other docs.

Production started in August and is month "A", September is "B" and so on. When I PM'd you I said my trim tag was H04 and it is actually D04. Sorry for the confusion.
To 68 NJ Conv 454 I wish I had more info on your car in my database! What I mean is please email color trim and other info ect... Well anyway....
The nearest survivor to you I have is Car 2667 a Bronze/Dark Orange vert also has a build date of C 23 also. that car needs restoration and reassembly, it was just sold recently. On the other side car 2710 was spotted but I could not get inside to get the door trim tag info. It was in Valencia CA and had flares and other custom touches!
Anyone with 68 info please get in touch!
I am especially interested in early October 68 build info, specificly 1200-1300 cars that are missing assembly dates on their trim tags!!!
Oh and as a nitpick,...

194378 means a coupe...there were virtually no coupes built before vin 7000-7100. I have not found any real data, but other than test cars, no coupes for public sale. I have been told 37-7144 is a survivor. Other than #'s 2 and 15 thats the earliest I have been made aware of.
