But I sure would like to do some traveling in a new vette. Can't decide what to do.
Wife and I have "road tripped" in our 78 SA manual many times since buying it back in 1979...last big trip was when I retired in 2002 and the 78 had 100,000 miles on engine...after a thorough check out..brakes,cooling system, new u-joints,all new hoses,etc...we took it on a 7000 mile trip...San Diego/South Boston,Va and back...had a blast...
Now have 132,000 and would not hesitate to make another big trip...
I am with the others, keep the 71 sell the other 4. I am no sure of their condition but figure 10k each and you have 40K that is almost enough for a new C6 and enough for nice used one for sure. and if it is the wifes idea there may be some extra money availible it is hard to really drive more than two unless you don't have to work. this is the best time of the year to sell. good luck
I was thought $7500 average for the 75 79 80 and 82 and $15K for the 71. I know we all like to think our cars are worth more but when it comes time to sell I think this would be realistic.

Rich
I'll go with my fellow road trip warrior Rich on this. I took my 75 out for my first trip of the year yesterday (150 miles). I've done enough to the car where I wouldn't be afraid to take it on a 3000 mile trip. Of course a C5 or C6 would be a bit more comfortable and refined but your 82 especially should have the potential to make a real nice, dependable cruiser too.
You are going at this all wrong....go drive what you THINK you want to buy and work back from there, deciding what car(s) you want to sell to balance out the deal...I did this, as you can see I ended up keeping my '82 and adding the Z06. I can hardly keep up with four cars myself (SUV, Mitsu Spyder GT and the two Vettes), can't imagine keeping up with anymore.

Refreshing statement. Usually on this forum all you hear is, "my buddy appraised my '79 for $65,000!" and they believe it.
I think you should keep the '71... all the other cars are redundant at that point, and the '71 is the only one with any immediate future value. Then take the pile of cash, drive as nice a C5 as you can find, and also a C6 and then make your decision.
Also, re: the kids? Nice thought, but I know poople who have left cars to kids who, while they loved Dad, didnt really care all that much for the cars he left them. Turn them in and have fun with your wife!!
