VIN info.

What can be determined from the cars vin number exactly? I know the door plate tells the build date, color & trim. But whats in the VIN?

Mine is a 1970. But I guess I was just wondering in general..

1970 =
Digit Definition
1st Division: 1 = Chevrolet
2nd / 3rd Series: 94 = Corvette
4th/5th Body Style: 37 = 2-door coupe, 67 = 2-door convertible
6th Model Year: 0 = 1970
7th Assembly Plant: S = St. Louis, MO.
Last 6 digits Production Number starting with 400001 - 417316

In 1972 the vin started to denote what engine went into the car (5th digit).

With VINs from newer cars, dealer can print out all options, with a short description of options. I have one for all my cars.
