Default Quadrajet Date Code?

I have a 1972 454 with manual transmission. The carburetor is a #7042217 which is all ok according to this website:

http://www.carburetion.com/quadnumber.htm

But - instead of a 4 digit date code under the serial number this is what I have:

7042217
M1 0 FF

What does the second part mean?

I believe what you have is a Carter built Qjet where M = Dec and 1 = 71, FF = cust code....not sure what the 0 stands for.

Thanks. Its not really a zero but the stamp is a smaller o within a larger 0 followed by FF. Yes I think that it is a Carter built for Rochester.

ur trim tag will have date on top right corner next to the word chevrolet. Will be a letter and numbers.
Example would be A15, A being 1st month of build. August 15
I'd say with ur seriel number u'd have a build date of Feb. sometime. If built in feb. ur date code would be the letter G followed by date

You're right Ken, it's G07 - so February 7, 1972.

We're a few hours south of San Luis Obispo. It is really a very nice part of California - getting toward the central part of the coast - it is a Mission town. Go to Hearst Castle then up to Monterey if you get the chance - can't go wrong.

I'll keep that on my calendar and hopefully I can make the car show and meet you and your son. Maybe I can talk Big2Bird into riding up with me.

704=70-75
2=year 72
2=quad Jet
1=chevy
7=man trans (odd #'s manual, even #'s auto)
M1 or (MI)?=plant code
0-not sure
FF-not sure
there should be 4 more #'s for build dates

Glen,
GQ82 answered that question regarding the M1 date. Carter build quadrajets used a letter for month and number for yr. Thus M1=Dec 71. They skipped the letter I as it looked too much like the number 1, Rochester built quadrajets used the julian date code with 4 digits.
The FF denotes plant where carb was made.
